I do not understand the heaping praise piled onto this film. Don't believe what people tell you - it is not farce. This is a film with farcical elements shoehorned in. If it was farcical - this would be funny or amusing in some way. But this film is not amusing nor entertaining. It is downright dour, deflating, and ugly. Its like the director said "lets have the actors do THIS - while they are doing THAT - to give folks the semblance that something clever is going on."
A film that wallows in its own pretentiousness, it's less clever than folks claim it to be.
The book is way better, and leaves more to the imagination. This is just an overblown mess with no heart, emotion, or plot. Ava DuVernay clearly took on more than she could chew with this material - the script needed a few more drafts.
All in all - it is a most excellent sequel - and I am glad they were able to pull it off. Definitely a good ride for nostalgia's sake, it's a good third part to round out the saga. The story is a bit predictable with the whole "ticking time bomb" aspect and that it doesn't tread anywhere you haven't been before. Still, you cannot help but love these characters, so much that you want to believe the logic that drives the whole thing.

I have read a lot of bashing about this film... "silly", "predictable", "takes liberties with the E.S.C. rules"... whatever. Don't listen to those people because you will regret it and not even know what you have been cheated out of.
This film has HEART... its FUN. It doesn't take itself too seriously but it doesn't go crazy-stupid either. McAdams and Ferrell have onscreen chemistry that you end up cheering for just because they have so much fun together.
So, be a cool guy - go see this movie. Ja FIRE SAGA !!
