This is like a bad after-school special. What are you thinking? What's next, The Walking Dead: Mr. Rogers Neighborhood? I am suffering through Episode 2 right now, but if something big doesn't happen to justify this show's existence before the end of the episode I'm done.
I'm not certain how to rate this, it depends on the goals of the creators. Are you seeking to create the most unlikable, unsympathetic main character in the history of television? If so, FIVE stars. If not, then zero stars....
How in the world is this show getting a critics' 76% on RT?? The writing is horrible, the acting is horrible, the lead is a parody of a bad L-Word episode, the directing is horrible, and why -- why -- does every actor sound like they are all Southies?
Jeezus, try harder.
This show could be a 4.5 star but Cara Gugino is the wrong person to cast Wy not just cast Sally Fields? Ther's more silicone in Cugino than in all of Silicon Valley. Pretending that she is irresistibly sexy would require a much better actor. The other problem is the Ocean's 11 issue -- things always work out even though they are unrealistic. Again, could be a great show, just wrong actor/lazy scripting.
The show is good, writing and acting is good, BUT, Kelly Reilly, who plays beth Dutton, is SO BAD that she almost ruins the show. She makes cheesy afternoon soap operas look classy. Get rid of her and this show might have legs. Otherwise, I'm about done with it......
I love this show, even more than the movie. I laugh constantly. I actually save episodes each week for when I need a mood lifter and I watch it then. It always works! Don't change aa thing, and renew it forever please!
What a plummet! It used to be one of my favorite shows, but now it is just a most irAritating display of the most irritating behaviors of the most irritating subclass in america -- the Hipsters. Get over yourselves.
If you took a C-movie Lifetime movie mess, combined it with a weak Dateline NBC with that weird dude with the long face and odd voice, stretched it out or Wayyyyy too many episodes, THEN you have Dirty John. And would someone please, please tell Eric Bana that he is the worst "actor" on cable TV. Why Connie Britton got involved in this career killer baffles me.
This show has the actors and general premise to be a really good show, but instead of aspiring to be to be in the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" class the show is happy using tired storylines from 45 years of sitcoms and being without imagination. i'm rooting for you to upgrade this show, but if you don't it won't last.
The fact that they tout this as "the next game of thrones" just because George RR Martin is involved should be criminal. It has tons of potential but clearly the director and the writers are clueless. Instead of living up to its seeds of potential it gives us overbearing soundtrack and a hint of ideas never brought to any logical (or sensical) conclusion. Swing and a miss.
When I first read about this show I thought it sounded stupid and wouldn't last a day. Then I watched it. It's not deep (nor is intended to me I assume) but it VERY enjoyable. I've always liked "Baby Wayans", but The chemistry between all of actors is excellent.. I'm not sure how far they can extend the premise, but teh writers seem clever so maybe it has legs. In the meantime I look forward to the light-hearted and enjoyable show.
Wow! Use to love this show. Was a little all over the place last season. Just watched the season 4 first episode and don't really have the right words, so I'll just say this: What a mess!!! It was all over the place, corny as hell, unbelievably stuffed with chiches. I'm still chuckling over the "hey jane, ZIP is going to kill you", and **SUDDENLY** she starts having the symptoms. Plus there is ZERO continuity of characters. Watch season 1 and compare it to the current characters -- they were just too lazy to develop new characters so they simply and completely changed characters personalities. Wow.....
The show has a lot of potential. Unfortunately the runners/writers/diectors think they are directing a 38 Special video. IF they could get over their macho, drawn out southern rock motif they might end up having a good show. But they don't.
Loved the beginning of the series, Seasons 3 and 4 were getting laborious, but Season 5 is my favorite so far. I think the new direction (with continued good writing) could susteain the show for several more seasons.
