Love and basketball
WARNING!!Put the popcorn in the microwave grab a cover and get comfortable. One shot one chance, all fair in "Love and basketball" baby. (Spoilers ahead)
Overall A+ performance I recommend this movie those into love, sports, family issues and the toll of love. Monica and Quincy have been at each other's throats since they were 11. As their passion for the game of basketball brought them together. Quincys dad who played for the Los Angeles Clippers inspire quincy drive to reach the professional level. This last until high school where Quincy has a top dog attitude and Monica edge continue to separate them. This movie takes the audience in the journey on the true toll of love.
Monica's parents and older sister despair of getting her to act like a girl. She'd rather shoot baskets. When she's about 12, her family moves into a new house in Baldwin Hills, a good Los Angeles neighborhood. Next door lives an NBA star and his son, Quincy. The first time the kids meet, they play a pickup game. Monica goes for a score, Quincy pushes her, and she gets a little scar that will be on her right cheek for the rest of her life.
Both with bad attitudes on the court they can help but fall for each other. As Monica mom questions why she has this whole tomboy attitude to her. When Quincy's parents argue he constantly is going over to Monica's climbing thru the window and sleeping on the floor. In a sequence of surprising effectiveness, she takes the advice of her mom and sister to "do something" with her hair and goes to a school dance with a blind date. Quincy is there, too. They dance with their dates but they keep looking at each other. Later on as they return home Quincy see a letter from the University of Southern California he insists she opens the letter. After the letter reveals that she has been accepted, he finally stated that USC was also his choice. As they move in to congratulate each other with a hug, Monica mistakes the gesture as a kiss and that leads to them finally acting on their feelings for one another by making love to each other.
As time goes on their relationship has their ups and downs. Their paths to chasing the same dream begin to counteract their love/hate relationship. Things begin to spiral out of control and take a turn to different course. At this point in the movie the audience is screaming, " NO, YES, STAY!!" As they commit to the same college both play basketball and are dominating court. Quincy and Monica futures both looking bright have to figure out whose dream will be supported.Quincy life begins spiraling out of control as his father is dealing with a paternity suit from a former lover.Quincy feels betrayed by his father for lying to him and threatens to leave school for the NBA early, despite his father begging him not to sacrifice his education just to spite him. Monica finally earns the starting point guard spot she had been working hard for at the end of the season. However, Quincy can't be happy for her, because he blames her for not being there for him when he was having problems with his father. Monica is hurt deeply by Quincy, leading the two of them to go their separate ways.
Monica and quincy go professional where over time a tragedy reunites them only to find quincy has moved on and is getting married
The movie ends with a one on one match. The stakes are for the heart.
