Excellence from every angle.
Better character development than most live action films.
Bonus points for the soundtrack.
Ahhhhh..... What do I think of this movie?
Its SUCH a loaded question.
The flow is a little interrupted and convoluted at times... In LARGE part because of the secondary-villan subplot with Black Manta. I can only assume that it was threaded in as a way to open up future appearances with a Manta origin story. I accept it as such, and I wasn't offended by the inclusion.
My only real quip with Manta is the awful fight scene after his "upgrade". Everything about the scene... Entrance, costume, dialogue, voicing... invoked memories of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Super Cheesy. No Bueno.
Another shortcoming; I felt, was the Soundtrack. The Composition of the overall Score was beautiful, and emotionally appropriate. It built tension and achieved climax. It set-up and punctuated jokes as effectively as the "bah-dum-tshh" rimshot of a stand-up act.
That said; the commercial music chosen for the soundtrack was a MASSIVE disappointment for me. The songs seemed so out-of-sync and lacked context. I honestly couldn't help but wonder if they ran out of budget for audio rights. It was puzzling.
But I digress; enough of the nit-picking.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, in spite of the idiosyncrasies. Aquaman come *this close* to being one of the most awesome & epic superhero movies I've seen.
I've seen and heard some complaints about the CGI, and i don't get it. I thought it was breathtaking and beautiful. I cant even imagine the time and effort involved in creating such a living, breathing, moving, intricate, and visually stunning underwater world. Props to James Wan for remarkable vision and follow-thru.
I was thinking of inserting a mic-drop pic here.
Mamoa is captivating in emotionally understated scenes, physically commanding in battle, and FUNNY AS F*** in spite of dialogue that came dangerously close to falling flat. His performance allowed this movie to straddle a fine line between parody and kitsch.
Even if it's 2 & 1/2 hours of slight confusion, I can't wait for the sequel.
Excellent character development. Smart writing and well directed.
I was engaged and invested very early.
Ellen DeGeneres proves her relatability once again. RELATABLE is all at once... heartwarming, honest, humbling, inspiring, witty, irreverent and silly.
Ellen takes us along for a perfectly uncomfortable ride.
I was drawn in by her cheeky humor; stretched to an almost uncomfortable place within her personal experiences, and let out again like a giddy helium filled baloon.
My only regret is that the ride ended too quickly.
If you like action, CGI, and "Cloudy With a chance of Meatballs 2"... Yes.
Funny, somewhat irreverent, absolutely original. I was honestly slack-based for a while.
Faithful enough as an homage to the original, this film satisfied the singing heart of an original "Belle" fan, and the critical eye of my seven year old son. He sat in awe of the wondrous visual display... Endearing characters... Riveting fight scenes... Lovely and moving soundtrack. Emma Watson did NOT disappoint.
