I saw this movie 60 years ago and just watched it again because my local library started to stock the DVD. The premise of a tiny obscure European country finding a reason to declare war on the US in order to get benefits after surrendering. That premise is outstanding. But the script and dialogue lack any real imagination
resulting in a movie that lost the opportunity to be a genuinely outstanding comedy.
Very few laughs are found within.
At first I thought this was just another bad cop movie. But an excellent performance by Naomi Harris and a solid cast backing her up makes for an audience pleaser. Dion Taylor's superior direction makes this a fast past, eye opening, heart pounding
movie that captured my complete attention throughout.
I am not a fan of horror films but this is not the usual type of slasher film. A navel story line along with a strong cast yields a film well worth seeing. It is well paced and maintains the fear and emotion throughout. Do not miss the final words of this story. It left me laughing out loud!
I have been a fan of stand up comedy since my teens. I was expecting that the focus of this film would be on stand up. It is a minor part but accompanied by a humorous script. At 20 minutes into the film, I was feeling dubious. At the end, I was applauding enthusiastically. The real value in the film is the script and the story which will invade your heart. The stellar cast does not fail to deliver and enhances the quality. I will want to enjoy this film several times in the future.
A compelling documentary relating the takeover of the government by the
extreme right merging the government with the interests of large corporations.
It has been a slow, steady movement over the past 40 years that the most of the public has not realized yet. The corporate and special interest rule leaves behind misery, poverty and environmental destruction.
