Glenn is tremendous. Great production values. But Malkovich is horribly miscast, completely without the charm and appeal required, and he drags it down. And for all the talk, talk, talk, about seduction (by itself not very interesting) I had a hard time following much of what was going on. When I figured it out, I didn’t care. Thank goodness for Wikipedia plot summaries. Mostly boring boring boring.
Renee is tremendous and the whole show. And its all about the last 10 minutes. However, overall it’s not a particularly good or involving film. How does a director manage to make a lifeless and dull film about such a vital and exciting talent. Enjoy Renee’s performance though, as she beautifully balances capturing the essence of Judy, without falling into campy impersonation.
