The Lion King is one of the standout live-action Disney remakes, despite it being the hardest to pull off. Astonishing imagery, nostalgic moments and updated gags make it worthwhile. The return of the king for us... roars.
Observe and Report brings the brash and smashes the norm while doing so. Some of the gags are spiked with venom and would cause a bit of a stir if released now. Seth Rogen is at his robust best. Observe and enjoy.
Shaft joins the list of reboots that didn't need rebooting. More humour and nostalgia than the originals, but it's all lazily easy. A movie about a badass, but there isn't one to be seen. It left us feeling a bit shafted.
The Angry Birds Movie offers enjoyment for both children and adults. A great cast and good animation help it through. It doesn't quite take full flight but it clearly isn't for bird brains either.
Annabelle Comes Home covers intriguing ground from its predecessors, showing what all of those other objects are possessed with. It comes with laughs and still has a creepy retro charm about it. There's life in the old doll yet.
