After Last Jedi, this, although it certainly could have been better, was more than enough for me. It even makes it into something resembling a half decent trilogy overall. Nearly. None of these extra films were needed at all, but ultimately we saw a few new nice planets, the occasional decent new character (though not many), and lots more Miklennium Falcon and Chewie, which can only be a good thing. I am someone who listens to critics and use them as a guide to see a movie or not, but feel the polar opposite to what they do regarding this new trilogy. Force Awakens was no more than ok, Last Jedi was godawful, and this is actually pretty good! Maybe by now my standards have been lowered but I spent the first half thinking ‘so when does this get bad? Because right now it's a lot of fun and I'm enjoying it and it isn't moving too fast at all and it isn't all exposition and even the newer characters are holding my attention this time around, so what's the issue exactly?'. Turns out I preferred the first half to the second (another opposite to the critics), but man, is this film getting unfair (as in untrue) criticism. Not liking it is fine, but at least have reasons that are right! Unimaginative?! Why does Star Wars have to be some supreme level of imagination? When did it have to shock you every 5 minutes? It's a Star Wars film.....did he originals have that much going for them in these senses? They are my favourite films of all time, but Empire is the best one yet all we really get are battle, Luke trains while the others try to escape, they get caught and luck catches up with them and has a fight with who we learn is his dad, loses, the end. Fantastic stuff, but although the locations are fun, it's not THAT imaginative, is it? Is returnif the Jedi imaginative?! They need to find the emporer to kill him once and for all.....and we get some revelations along the way.....that's fine by me! I nitpicked a lot in Last Jedi but that was about the overall story, where it went, and the choices of the characters.....and the writer for what he thought would make a fun time. Nitpicking things like ‘how did Kyko get off the Death Star runs when Rey took his ship?' is NOT integral to he story and if you use Our imagination then I'm sure you can fill in the blanks, so just switch off, enjoy the ride, smile at the call backs and try to have a good time, will you, people! After Last Jedi, watching a sausage roll for 2 hours would have been an improvement, so be glad that there is a sense of closure and a half decent film before you!
Ok, but Spider Man should be way more than ok. Probably most disappointed ive felt coming out of a Marvel movie. Im trying to figure out what didnt click for me.....the hit and miss humour being mainly miss and a bit try-hard and forced, the action being uninspired and generic, the exposition style which still leaves it a bit of a confusimg mess anyway....but i think ultimately, like most superhero films, its the bad guy that makes it and i just didnt enjoy Jake Gyllenhaal fannying around with a load of drones. Poor villain. 1st zinger is the best part!
Look! We made a cheap movie and so we can do that cheap movie humour that doesnï¿ 1/2(TM)t really have a target audience! Ugh. Utter waste of time, literally.....there are certain scenes, like the drug scene, that just go on and in and in and I have no idea why. The cheap movie feel I refer to is a cop out for films like this......youï¿ 1/2(TM)ve been given a chance to make a film, so take it! Thereï¿ 1/2(TM)s no wit or humour, just loudness and repetitiveness and some vague notion that it is leaning towards quirky, but no, youï¿ 1/2(TM)re not half as funny as you think you are, and I just wish that up and coming filmmakers were given the moe y to finance their passion projects rather than movies of this ilk. Takes an age to get going, and the hook of the film is more interesting on paper than it is executed here. I love me some b movie nonsense, I really do (although not great, there is a lot more love and care gone into the other new giant ant film, It Came From The Desert) but this wink wink to the camera type of film, oh arenï¿ 1/2(TM)t we cheap and crazy and a rollicking good time even though there isnï¿ 1/2(TM)t any actual jokes in there, but boy are we loud and crazy and look! Bumcheeksï¿ 1/2(TM) type fluff shouldnï¿ 1/2(TM)t be celebrated. Give the money to proper filmmakers. And the makers of this: go watch Brain Dead, Return of The Living Dead or Tremors or something for how to do silly horror comedy. Those have jokes in! Crazy eh!
I would just like those that liked it to point out one moment in the film when they laughed. I didnï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)t even get close to a ï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2~hehï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)! The plot is fine but itï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s all just achingly average and actually rather confusing in parts for a middle aged man such as myself, so lord knows how kids will understand it. That aside, can we have some actual humour and not just loud crashes and bangs and noises please? Ta!
