The visuals, which are a stunning homage to the original, is where the movie shines. The plot, can be said to be long and convoluted; this was a difficult thing to get just right. On the surface it should be entertaining while suggesting a deeper meaning, where this movie mostly left people trying to find that deeper meaning. Though I think what is the hardest sell is Ryan Gosling's character. In the first movie we seen a passionate lead character in with Ford. He was hot tempered, impulsive, frustratingly doing the cold and dirty work of retiring replicants. Gosling's character was more stoic and hard to connect with, which offered little diversions from the main plot (who's the replicants)
This is just a bad version of james bond. Pretending to be new and different by taking things to the extreme. Extremely snobish, cockny, and drama. Why does Samuel Jackson's character need to be some smart and yet sound so dumb? The movie admits to trying not to be James Bond just to have samual Jackson need to keep his hand constantly held on the doomsday deceive to work. As a Slapstick action it's ok, but really a second rate knock off of whats its trying so hard not to be.
