"Life" suffers from same problems that most modern horror films do - exceptionally poor writing.
Problem with whole "horror" bit is not creature itself, but utter stupidity of people involved. I cant be scared of alien, when im utterly pissed at crew of ISS, doing exceptionally stupid things, that go against not just protocol(most likely), but most basic common sense. Creature is outside and it cant survive long without oxygen - obviously most logical course of action is to just sit it out...but not in this movie.
Same game for mechanics of narrative, where station seem to lack most basic safety features, like inability to close all fire extinguisher vents at one. Or the fact that for ducking space station, that should have filters and sensors everywhere, it seem to have more holes than swiss cheese, as creature seem to be able to travel around at will. For a system that should have closed circuit on top of closed circuit on top of closed circuit on top of closed circuit... it seem to lack anything even remotely resembling safety features. They actually used a duct tape and plastic sheets to achieve hermetical state...in a station that has big ass hatches every 15 feet. Against creature that can crush space suits.
Premise of this movie might not be most original one, but lack of any imagination or common sense on writers part, most definitely did not help.
This is bad.
Original movie was an excellent action flick. Unfortunately it only went downhill from there. Slowly at first, but by fifth movie it is in free fall.
Movie is horrible in almost every aspect, from writing to directing. There have been even several scenes that was obviously deemed to be "good enough" and reek of extremely low quality.
Movie pacing and story is horrible. Selene power levels fluctuate enormously, from badass to complete whimp in matter of few minutes, only for her becoming badass again 10 minutes later. She can beat the living shit out of everyone at one point, just to be completely decimated few minutes later by fairly average character. And that is just one example. Whole movie is made in same manner, with many events having no logic or buildup to them.
Final battle at the castle was particularly cringe. With lycans bringing in a cannon(?) to blow small, head-size, holes in what appears to be tinted glass. And it somehow completely destroys vampire resistance. WTF
And all the crap about other world, or whatever was it name. Seriously, this was the weakest excuse to bring Selene back after being defeated. It is only rivaled by the fact how she managed to face Marius on almost equal terms and then somehow just get annihilated just a few minutes later, without taking much damage, all during same fight.
Horrible. And they are actually making another one.
Half a star for movie, another half for Kate.
Damn good superhero movie.
Great everything, not amazing, so its kinda hard to pinpoint any specific area.
Only issue i had is with how original Spider-Man was hastily thrown away in the beginning. Hes there, hes dead, moving along. Felt...disrespectful.
But aside of that movie had some unusual turns, both in terms of story and storytelling and it all was tied together in really good manner.
Transformers movies have been in decline for a while. But this is a whole new level.
First third was ok. But then it started to go downhill. Fast. Last third was exceptionally bad and even battle segment could not save it.
It takes special kind of talent to turn Transformers movie into a really really bad romantic drama. That also attempts to shamelessly ripoff 2007 movie.
And if extremely weak story was not enough, this movie, in best traditions of modern liberal Hollywood, completely drives over whole continuity of Transformers franchise.
Practically every few minutes something happened that made absolutely no sense from standpoint of simple logic. Zero effort was put into making this movie even remotely coherent. For example, you have two super-robots, with full access to everything(extremely lazy attempt to connect this to internet creation) and there is no guards there whatsoever. One guy, who is then being allowed to make a call before he gets liquefied. Yes, those bots are powerful, but it has been shown that human military can take them on and probably destroy them. Considering that no other Decepticons know about their location on Earth, they allow that guy to alert others, while talking about their exact plans for planet.
What to hell !!?!?
Bay versions look like a cinematographic masterpieces compared to this trash.
Most ironic thing about this movie is virus. But not internet virus, but parasitic virus of feminism that infested great movie franchise.
With all the effects included, like lack of originality, or knowledge of subject, or unpredictability, being replaced by empty boring propaganda(women awesome, men dumb, duh).
Unfortunately, in comparison to events of the movie, in this case it actually wrecked movie.
The fact that best and funnies episode of movie was during mid-credits ought to tell you everything.
1/2 star for movie, as first part was boring(normally it would qualify as buildup, but it ended in utter disappointment) and second outright trash(and cant give any lower than that), and another 1/2 star to mid-credit scene(it was damn good, but short).
How to hell tale of two friends devolved into this trash ?!?!?
