A bit slow for my taste (I believe this would have made an excellent 2 hour movie) and a bit more dramatic than expected (little to no levity) but I really did enjoy it, when all was said and done. (Watched it in a day, so it must have hooked me somehow.)
Honestly, what a beautiful love story. This one was very dynamic. The first 4 or 5 episodes were good, but I was starting to think it wasn't nearly as good as the first series. Then things started to roll and never stopped. It got really confusing at times but all came together in the end. Creepy, scary, tragic and beautiful.
I'm on episode 6 and really not enjoying this. It's very slow and is filled with unlikeable characters. I know it's a true story, but it's reeeaaaally hard to watch. Good acting, though. And Nick looks like Jimmy Fallon and Gary Sinise had a baby. Update- episode 7 was good, but the whole second half of the last episode seemed redundant.
Good all the way through (watched it in a day) until the end. That's really not what I wanted to happen :/ The show was mystery piled upon mystery- I was really hoping there would be a wicked twist. It was more a reveal than a twist.
This was really just ok for me. It had a bit too much young-adult type drama for my taste. I also didn't like how it ended, even though you could see it coming. Watchable for sure, and even entertaining. Just not totally my bag.
I really wanted to like this. Good tone overall, but the ending was just... ugh.
SPOILERS AHEAD. How does the cult explain Leanne's magical powers? I feel like they needed an ending so they just whipped one up quick. And what was the point of little Leanne and the pageant? Why was it easier to let people believe she died in the fire? Why did uncle George lead Sean to believe they could keep the baby? What does it mean that Leanne is their ‘servant'?
The best part of this was the twist about how Jericho died. They should have centered it around that. Maybe the next season explains it better? Based on the let down of this one though, I'm not so sure I want to watch... :/ Oh! And by the way, there are a lot of gratuitous animal corpse shots in this, and even a disgusting dose of extreme animal cruelty (the eels?! What the fuck was the point of that? Suffocating and then skinning an eel alive would be just as agonizing to them as it would be to us- just because we can't hear them scream doesn't make this ok. It's inexcusable.).
I LOVED this show. It was happy, sad, funny and beautiful. Totally original and thoroughly enjoyable. I kind of wish/hope theres more but Im also happy with how it ended. This wont be for everyone but it is right up my alley.
This is a great show but it gets really hard to watch a series where NOTHING. GOOD. EVER. HAPPENS. Okay, some things do, but then its just more bad. Its exhausting. Have to plug away though- it has to end well. Right?
Just creepy enough to be a horror, and the family's stories make it so much better. Watched this in just over a day and dont feel at all that I wasted any time (not like with Castle Rock- ugh.) Plus, Angelina Jolie, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Larroquette were great cast additions ;)
(hopefully you know who I mean :)
