I just watched part of this film again because i was trying to relax. Yeah, it's a disaster movie that is perfect before bed time because it will put you right out.....zzzzz. I saw this as a kid and I guess it was OK at the time. Looming question: A comet is going to cross through the asteroid belt, is the first instinct of NASA to position a spaceship close to where the event is going to take place? ha. As bad as that whole idea and scene was, it was probably the best scene in the entire film. The rest is just like a drama with a ton of talking that is guaranteed to put you right out. What is up with the talking scenes where they suddenly crash cut to the asteroid looming through space with that weird bass sound and then immediately cut back to the same person talking?
The editing in this film is like Bat Shit crazy if you can do that at 1 mph, which is about as fast as the film moves. Like I said, turn on before you are going to bed, you will not make it to the third act.
Finally saw this on Bluray. While I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, I have seen all the films. Not impressed. Film basically goes nowhere at a crawl. Plot is weak, many unnecessary subplots which lead nowhere. WAY TOO LONG for the story? presented. It picked up at the end right before I was going to fall asleep. Princess Lea flight through space had me scratching my head. Suoer Storm trooper character did nothing in the TFA and basically did nothing here either but die. Why bother? I'm ok with grumpy Luke, fine, but there wasn't much of a payoff at the end. Question: Why do all you Star Wars fanboys expect a good film anyway? 50% of the Star Wars films are not good, this one is bad too. Rogue One was the exception, that was good. There is better writing in one episode of the BattleStar Galactica TV show than what is found here. Seriously. Didn't see this is theaters and I'm glad....
