Madagascar Escape 2 Africa is the follow up from its predecessor Madagascar and it doesn't quite it that mark. The film is very funny and the plot is fast paced but it just isn't as good as the brilliant original. The film contains great casting choices made by Leslee Feldman which stays the same as the first and has Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen and Bernie Mac. I was shocked to see that Alec Baldwin was casted to star in this film. He played the villainous Makunga.
The films plot is basic and continues on from where the first one left off, the animals trying to get back to New York. The Madagascar animals fly back to New York City, but crash-land on an African nature reserve, where they meet others of their own kind, and Alex especially discovers his royal heritage as prince of a lion pride. What i loved most about the plot is that it was fast paced so the film didn't dragged and was enjoyable without getting you the slightest bit of bored. What I hated about this film is that they was too many subplots going on about each main character at once, so you had to worry about more than one subplot instead of one so you could get a bit muddled with the films story.
I know people are loving Moto Moto right now but I didn't like the films character. I know that I going to get lot of hate but I think that Moto Moto was just included in this film so they was able to add a story about Gloria's life in Africa. When the were looking for water nearer the end of the film you saw Moto Moto getting gold from underground but from then on Moto Moto was not mentioned for the rest of the feature so I was wondering, would ever happened to Moto Moto. Moto Moto isn't the only new character with that problem, most of the new characters which were introduced, also felt like they were just plunked into this film for the story to progress.
The film doesn't suppress the humour like the first, but that doesn't mean that this film isn't funny, it is one of the funniest DreamWorks films ever made. I didn't noticed any plot holes but there most probably were plot holes. Nonetheless Madagascar Escape 2 Africa doesn't withhold the strengths of its predecessor but is still a very funny and re watchable film that I have seen countless times and it never gets old.
