I love Westerns but avoided this movie for literally decades because I thought it had to be hokey if Tom Selleck was the lead. (Great TV guy, movies? Up for debate). Well, let me tell you, I finally checked this out and found it to be top-notch. Selleck is truly solid in this. Gotta be the best film on his resume. The story is great. The action is fun and perilous. Oh yeah, and it doesn't hurt to have one of the greatest villain actors of all time, Alan Rickman, co-starring and being his usual sly, devilish self. This flick WAY surpassed what little expectation I had. It is a fun watch on many levels. Shame on me for not checking this out 30 yrs ago.
Classic Clint! Probably 15 watches now over the years. Just a flat-out great western. Period.
Charming, gentle, and pretty much irresistible. A fascinating telling of a nice tale. I've seen it three times now, and it seems to get better with each viewing. A very good watch for young and old, and everyone in between. 4 stars.
3 stars. After a slow, stodgy beginning, this movie developed a rather interesting plot, and I was hooked. Smith is solid in a rather unconventional role for him, and bravo to the screenwriter. I never saw this ending coming. .... Now to try to get this lump out of my throat. :o)
the same opening, final scene, and a lot in between as "The Family Man". definitely a direct rip off, just with more of a Christian slant. all that said, I still enjoyed this film. kevin sorbo is an underrated actor. He is solid and, overall, I found this flick to be poignant and intriguing. It's not overly preachy either. This is actually a very good watch. it's warm with a lot of heart.
