Dreamy ethereal spookshow with great scenes of trick photography and an atmosphere of dread - for as many times as I have seen this film it's still hard to put my finger on, hard to recall, like a dream felt but barely remembered - whisps of gothic fog clouding everything..
A great film clouded with hints of sexism, pro-military antiscience that seems like it would have been more enjoyable before we all realized how toxic masculinity ruined Hollywood.
The one part of this film that was an example of fantastic cinema making was with the discovery of the alien craft - how the group spreads out to form its shape is one of the most chilling scenes in cinema history.
A film where the eye races over every corner of the screen searching for clues just as the protagonist searches through the cold and eerie streets of Venice. Slow zooms seem to magnify situations that are shrouded in mystery. Eliptical editing provides the viewer with one of the greatest sex scenes of all cinema - where "time seems to be biting itself in the ass"
The ending is notoriously odd, but maybe there was no other way to end such a gorgeous film than with a scene coated in luscious red the 1970's were so good at filming...
Elegant, beautiful, heartwrenching, and spooky ghost story about love, loss, and revenge. Some of the most spectacular images put to film - gorgeous is putting it mildly.
A strong film that attempts to explain away its weaknesses within a convoluted set of antagonist intentions - Hereditary is a film that is well worth the watch but will leave the viewer complaining about parts that could have been stronger or tied together tighter.
