The Black Butler TV-Series, the mystery movies and the real life movie are all excellent. This movie from the series is watchable, but certainly not great. The feeling of the TV-series is not present, except in small parts and there is no Sherlock Holmes type mystery to solve, as was covered in the mystery movies. As a result it can be classed as a basic, if enjoyable watch. I would watch the TV-Series first and if you liked it, move on to this movie.
This is a good adventure mystery movie. The plot progresses well, the characters are interesting and the conclusion, while unusual, is acceptable. While I would not class this as a classic or a movie you can re-watch, its certainly worth a single viewing. It deals with adult themes, so its no Disney movie, so children may find it a bit scary.
This was a very enjoyable story. Good graphics, compelling story line, adventure and a reasonable end. The ending is possibly the weak spot of the movie, but the journey to get there is very enjoyable.
The TV-Series was excellent and I highly recommend it, but the movie is very different. Much darker and a lot less fun than the TV-Series. The story itself is very simple and if you have watched the TV-series you will know how it ends very quickly. I must admit the final fight is very emotional and it is well worth a watch. I would strongly recommend watching the TV-Series first.
This movie is beautiful to watch. While the story is simple the underlying philosophy is not and the story flows well. This movie is mainly dialog and philosophy with only a few action scenes. The plot keeps you guessing and it attempt to subvert most common tropes, leaving you wondering who the good and bad guys are. I found the ending disappointing. While it had a great twist, it felt unsatisfying, however I notice the other ITOH movies are similar. I suspect the attempt is to subvert our common expectation of an ending, which it does well, but leaves us with an unsatisfying feeling. While not a classic, such as Ghost in the Shell, its well worth a watch.
