A throwback/homage to when films with sex had to have drama/melodrama to get past censors. Too much soap opera to be viewed as realistic today. Without the violence, it would have made a sexy comedy.
There probably can't be any non-partisan reviews of this film. Half documentary of what happened and how she worked to get through it, half comedy set. Both parts up close and personal, as her work has always been. People who liked her before will like this; people who didn't, won't.
I was supposed to like this film, but I didn't. It has a few interesting moments, but overall it began and ended nowhere. Did Lanthimos intend for me to feel confused and disappointed? If so, mission accomplished.
A relative was impressed with this movie so I watched it. Still spinning the same UFO nonsense. So many long-debunked claims, so many out-of-context quotes, so many conspiracies by so many people. More money to be made by selling these stories to believers.
I hate to think what Netflix is going to recommend "Because I watched this".
