I appreciate the fine acting from the Nuns and the cinematography is great BUT the story is meh. Not that much actually happens. Its far better than the recent BBC TV series of the book which makes me wonder why they bothered, but there is simply not enough in the film. I have no idea if the book contains far more or this is it. If this is it, its too little. Sorry, this may be considered a classic, its just not a classic to me.
It really was not expecting too much but the reviews were good which convinced me to watch it. I'm glad I did. You don't need to be interested in wrestling to enjoy this, the script is excellent, some great one-liners. Its such an unusual (and true) story. Well worth watching.
The film kept my attention for the duration which given this is a subtitled film and not my usual type was a success. Its very well made, the WW1 theme and the dislike of the French and Germans for each other was excellently handled and where the film was taking the viewer (whilst I had my ideas) remained fresh throughout. Its good but the gentle pace stops it from being great.
I watched the reviews which said this was great, but, like, really? its CGI, whats the point? we have live-action spiderman? meh, its not for me.
BUT, heck, its great, REALLY great. Way better than it should be.
Awesome. Loved it.
