In 1981 in L.A., Monica moves in next door to Quincy. They're 11, and both want to play in the NBA, just like Quincy's dad. Their love -hate relationship lasts into high school, Love and basketball is about how you can either be in love or play basketball, but it's tricky to do both at the same time. It may be unique among sports â~movies in that it does not end with the âBig Gameâ?. Instead, it's a thoughtful and touching story about two affluent black kids, a boy and a girl who grow up loving each other, and the game. Monica is a tomboy. Her parents and older sister despair of getting her to act like a girl. She'd rather shoot baskets. Monica mother didnâ(TM)t like her playing basketball are being around boys. Quincyâ(TM)s didnâ(TM)t like the fact that Monica could play basketball. And here's the most amazing thing it considers sports in terms of career, training, motivation and strategy. The big game scenes involve behavior and attitude, not scoring. The movie sees basketball as something the characters do as a skill and a living, not as an excuse for audience-pleasing jump shots at the buzzer. Me Shell Ndege'ocello's "Fool of me" help punctuate this story of childhood friends who love each other almost as much as they love the game of basketball. What I like about this movie itâ(TM)s very funny and two people who never give up on their love and also their goals in life.
