I've heard people talk about how bad the transformers movies are, but I've never seen any of them, and I thought "how bad can they really be". Bad. Really bad. I don't know if this Movie is like any of the others, but it's got to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Can someone please explain what happens in this movie, because I have no idea. Thankfully, I watched this on Amazon Prime, so I could just stop watching right in the middle. I had better ways to spend my time. This movie looks kind of cool. That's the only positive thing. It would be a great screensaver.
I usually give credit where credit is due. I never like to hate on movies, and like to look at the positives. There are definitely good things, like the haunting and mysterious first act, and the lead actor Alden Ehrenreich (a.k.a. young Han Solo). But everything else... I must say... is pretty awful. It comes across as this cheesy, cliched YA movie. It also doesn't help that this movie makes absolutely no sense. It's really bad. It can't even be enjoyed as a "so bad it's good movie", because it's just competent enough, not to be completely ridiculous. So you're not even entertained, you're just bored. I think this may be my least favorite film of all time
I don't understand why everyone thinks this movie is terrible. It's fine. It's a Star Wars movie. It's fine. Space battles/light sabers/force/interesting characters/ etc. There are interesting choices in this movie and things that happen that are unexpected, things hardcore fans won't like. But if everything happened the exact way you thought, than it would be predictable, which would be even worse. This movie is pretty unpredictable, I'll give it that.
Good God! This movie...THIS MOVIE! It is absolutely 100% bonkers, ...and that's why I like it so much. This movie doesn't try to explain any of the ridiculous things that happen. Stuff happens, and it's ridiculous. But it's a good kind of ridiculous. It's a movie that really understands what it's trying to be. It's complete nonsense, but it's fun nonsense. There were times when I genuinely laughed out loud, and this isn't even a comedy (although it kind of is in a way) I said "whoa" out loud. I'll be honest, I've never actually said "whoa" out loud, not in a theater. 4/5
I love Solo. I absolutely love it. Easily the most underappreciated film in the Star Wars franchise, and it may just be my favorite Star Wars movie to date (yes, you heard me right, my FAVORITE). I think why this movie is so good in my opinion, is that it goes out of it's way to create a Star Wars movie unlike any you've seen before. Instead of focusing on giant conflicts between good and evil, Solo instead chooses to focus on...Han Solo! Just one guy trying to make a life for himself in a gritty galaxy. And although this movie has light moments of colorful banter, this is a very gritty Star Wars movie. It shows that this is a galaxy that, for the majority of people, is very tough to live in. It also has a ton of similarity's and references to classic western films, and in many ways it reminds me of the show Firefly more than Star Wars. I absolutely adore Solo, and even if you're burnt out by Star Wars at this point, it is still DEFINITELY worth a watch. 5/5
