It seems like every year a film is released which portray high school girls as the main focus. The two most recent that really struck a chord were Thoroughbreds and Eighth Grade. This will not be added to the list...
While there was nothing inherently bad about it, I don't think the pluses really added enough to make it a memorable experience for me. There were some great scenes but as a whole it just didn't cross that line to the next level.
I'm glad I got to see it, and for her directorial debut, Olivia Wilde played it pretty safe. Overall it wasn't the homerun I was hoping for but they can't all be!
I'll give it a respectable 2.5/5
Boy oh boy, talk about a childhood taking away some possible enjoyment of a new release. I wasn't sold on this from the first teaser, sadly I don't think I was ever able to really get over that hump either.
Will Smith was good (for the most part), the other relatively unknowns did a good job as well. The characters of Jafar and Iago were nearly wasted as they turned them into too much of a straight shooter instead of the fun villains they were in the animated version.
I think I may be getting worn our on Disney's cash grab on these. I haven't even seen Dumbo and yet I'm already over them.
I guess we'll see how The Lion King performs, that being said I am excited for Mulan!
I'll give this a 2/5 I think it had potential, just didn't live up to it.
Well I'm a little late to the party here, but finally got around to watching this. I was never a huge wrestling fan, but being an asst. editor on The Cauliflower Alley Club's newsletter has definitely given me an appreciation for it.
I went into this with pretty big expectations, I was a HUGE fan of Florence Pugh after seeing her in Lady Macbeth. Sadly I think she may have been in over her head here. Not to say she did a bad job but I don't think she took the right role.
The acting throughout felt almost forced, I guess it could have been intentional as this was almost filmed as a documentary style film. Ironically, clocking in at 1hr 48min I think the film was too short. It really didn't even scratch the surface of Paige's career.
Overall it was entertaining (even with the so over the top Dwayne Johnson roll lol).
I'd give this a 2.5/5 and hope that Florence choices future rolls more carefully!
