The Handmaiden (2016)
Best production design and cinematography (the sweeping camera movements!). The first one and a half hour was flawless, oh yes the twist was unexpected indeed. But the last hour was underwhelming as it returns to familiar potboiler territory and overlong explicit scenes seemed indulgent. The romance was underdeveloped to warrant any emotional impact.

No Country for Old Men (2007)
Very unpredictable from beginning to end and a masterclass in suspense before action. Cool cinematography, performances and writing. Most of the scenes are brilliant. Tommy Lee Jones' parts were less engaging.

Enemy (2013)
This is by no means a traditional movie and more akin to a dream, so it may be snubbed as stupid and complicated. But it is one of the things closest to a dream I've seen, and Villenueve is a master at mood and atmosphere. Superb lighting and consistent color scheme. There's no need to analyse the symbolism and decode the meaning of this movie, it is a cool resemblance of a dream and the meaning will be understood by our subconscious mind.

Mother (2009)
A critically acclaimed movie which some even consider his masterpiece. But it was unexpectedly boring to me - watching an old lady saving her autistic son was not my cup of tea - and the ending was so unbelievably predictable that the whole movie seemed pointless.
