Fantastic documentary! Notice the disparity between the Audience reviews and the supposed "Critics" on Rotten T. Someone is trying to downplay, or shall we say stifle, this must-see film about free speech. Hmmmm . . .
This is a GREAT and unusual movie. It should have been a big hit. Acting, directing, storytelling, production values--all excellent. And it's SCARY. It posits the reality of the Devil and therefore God, and it also posits the human need for confession, forgiveness, and mercy. I guess viewers who are non-Christian might be uncomfortable with those themes these days; too bad. Because for those with eyes to see and ears to hear, this is a movie with an ultimately uplifting message. Highly recommend for multiple viewings.
I loved this Irish movie overall. It was dark, scary, magical, funny, and almost constantly surprising. The acting, cinematography, production design, original music, and direction were all excellent. Even though they take some liberties with the plot, I did not feel like they violated the spirit of the Brother's Grimm powerful fairy tale. Highly recommend.
