Not the worst Will Ferrell movie, but that's not saying much. Cheap jokes, predictable storyline and no real consequences, besides the waste of time it took to watch it.
This is a movie that aged well and made more sense as time went on. On the surface it's just an excuse to see the leading woman make out with people and look hot doing it. Beneath all of that are deeper concepts about societal expectations and growing up in the modern era.
Nostalgia pulled the rating all the way to 5 stars. If this were to have been released recently, I'm not so sure I would find it to be so entertaining. The sisters were by far the most hilarious part of the movie, and it left me wishing there was an entire move about them acclimating to the new world.
Despite the low reviews, this movie lends itself to a good evening. While some lines land flat, others have the perfect storm of good timing and palpable chemistry. The concept is silly at worst and hilarious at best. It's no oscar winner, but it is worth watching.
An emotional rollercoaster that will have you planning your life and hugging the ones around you. The descent of a woman who holds language above all is heartbreaking to watch, but feels entirely necessary.
