This movie was a delight to watch, Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins were incredible as the eponymous Popes. It is witty and heartfelt, I highly recommend it!
I wish they had done a better job of making this. There are some things about it that I like (surprisingly Robert Pattinson is one of them), but they really didn't do the book justice.
I suppose they wanted to leave out the satanic aspect & maybe leave the motivations of the Dr up to interpretation, but it just ended up a befuddled mess with no real tension, or direction. On top of that, the editing is a complete shambles! It looks good, the performances are fine but it feels like a high school drama production, rushed & clunkily hitting all the main points with nothing to coherently string them together.
I'm giving it the extra half star for sheer nostalgia! This is peak 90's cheesy, campy horror, I used to watch my Gran's vhs copy whenever I stayed over as a kid. The plot is rather simple & the acting lacking at certain moments, but it's still better than 90% of the crap that hits cinemas these days.
The effects didn't age well, and are even a bit gross at times, but if you can see past that you will enjoy it's mix of fantasy & horror. It's got heart, I'll give it that!
A great movie, takes you back to the days of Goodfellas & Casino etc. I admit I did find the de-aging kind of off-putting though, it was like their heads weren't the right fit for their bodies, but other than that I really can't fault it. It was wonderful to see Joe Pesci back on screen!
Depressing viewing I'm afraid
I have a thing for Christmas horror movies, and this one was actually quite enjoyable. Worth a watch!
Sucked big-time. So very preachy, took itself far too seriously.
As bad as it's 2006 predecessor was, it looks like a cinematic masterpiece next to this garbage. Definitely doesn't hold a candle to the original.
A brilliant movie, hilariously funny with a great cast and wonderful setting.
I absolutely love this movie, it's spooky, it's cheesy, it's 80's feel good nostalgia!
Well that sucked!
This was a less than sub-par follow up to the original (which is a great movie!).
The story is weak, as are the characters - I couldn't care less about who lived or died in this movie, the chemistry was abysmal but they still managed to shoehorn in a totally inexplicable sex scene. The writing, editing, setting all looked cheap and recycled. The only vaguely interesting thing in this movie was Lilith, but we rarely see her. At least there is one silver lining - I never have to watch it again!
I love to watch this movie every winter when it's snowing outside - it gets me into the Christmas spirit!
Pretty good, worth a watch if you like to inject a little horror into Christmas!
I want my money back, and I only paid half price. Goodness, that was cringeworthy!
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was eerie and atmospheric, and i really liked the two main characters. It held my interest and had more to offer than most blockbusters! I'll watch this again!
I actually really enjoyed this movie. I came across it one night while home alone and channel surfing (maybe that's what contributed to the creepy atmosphere). It was tense and spooky without relying on over-the-top gore, cgi horrors or a barrage of jump-scares. I'd definitely recommend this movie!
