My first wish is for a different director, many scenes took me away from the magic of the film and felt poorly planned/executed.
My second wish is for a recasting of Jafar, Marwan Kenzari was such a poor choice for the role; from his youth & overall look to his performance this just wasn't the role for him, I was left wanting something else.
And my final wish is that they didn't over shadow the original romance with the very weird and uncalled for Genie romance..
Besides my wishes this adaptation did bring to life some stunning sets/visuals as well as holding it's own performance wise to the original music. Most of the acting and story was great but with Marwan as Jafar and Genies new romance this film sadly took a carpet ride for the worst.
Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood is a beautifully crafted love letter to 60's Hollywood, Quentin delivers more engaging characters & moments to the cinema screen topped off by his gory re-imaging of what happened that tragic night in Hollywood.
Despite removing original elements such as the (character of the) mice & songs, Cinderella manages to ground itself as a thoroughly enjoyable remake. Adding a whole new segment of her early life and multiple scenes of the Prince with his Captain (best friend), and other alternations this remake also features a fantastic cast that help elevate the original material.
Jungle Book stands out as a fantastic remake for its beautiful CGI, added depth & usage of the original material. It truely sets the bar for what remakes could and (inarguably) should be!
Emma Watsons casting was one of the poorest choices next to the CGI ones. The choices made to bring the animated characters to life stained this movie, as did the musical performances, aside from some brief new story elements & Josh Gads LeFou, this remake missed the mark.
