I think making this blind man character, sort of anti-hero was always going to split opinions. I think, although not as fresh or as tense as the original, this sequel definitely had some pretty good twists I didn't expect. So all in all, some muddled character development, but sets out what it intends to do, switch your brain off and enjoy.
As far as reboots/sequels go, it was decent. But I definitely don't think it was an outstanding achievement in horror filmmaking that some are suggesting. I liked and disliked parts in equal measure, although the twist ending left something to be desired. There also wasn't near enough thrills or horror. It was an okay viewing experience that doesn't hold a candle to the original.
As much as I enjoy the main characters immensely, this movie did not have the impact of the prior entries. Its got some fun set pieces, but little in the way of a compelling storyline. I was left wanting to feel more, between plot and a lack of genuine scares. The first and second left you haunted after the credits, but this entry will only leave you slightly spooked.
