This movie was incredibly boring. It feels completely different from the first one. The movie also makes it hard to root for Peter (Noah Centineo) in this sequel, he is so utterly annoying and every time he's on screen it's dreadful. Jordan fisher as John Ambrose is almost too good, he's so likable that it almost hurts the narrative because her choice at the end leaves a horrid taste in my mouth. I didn't care for the side characters in this film, something I appreciated in the first movie. I hated the color grading of this film like wtf was that.
It's cheesy and fun. It's not trying to be something it's not, it's full to the brim with cute moments that the whole cast embraces. The plot is fresh and keeps you engaged the whole way through. Lara Jean is a good lead to follow but the side characters were the standouts for me. This movie is a strong teen romance film, it's not the best thing ever but it does it's best with a genre that's been beaten to death.
Margots really carrying this movie on her back. While I think that often Harleys narration is a bit too much in supply, it's still not the biggest problem with the film. The films doesn't give enough attention to anyone but Harley. Sure huntress gets a backstory but she's so disconnected from the other characters. Black Canary has good scenes but the movie never try's tackling anything relating to her mother or her life in general. The cop is probably the most unnecessary character in the bunch but I don't really have that many problems with her. But I understand it's hard to tackle a bunch of backstories in two hours. On the flip side the fight choreo is awesome, it was for sure the beet part of the film.
So while it's not the best of Pixar's lineups it's still a heartwarming story that offers a lot to the genre of road trip type movies. It's worldbuilding isn't super interesting but it's use of different creatures was certainly great. It utilizes it's premise really well, the moments between the dad and his sons were nice. I think the ending was the best part of the film and made everything really come together. I'm not sure what else to say, it was good, not great.
Alita carries this movie on her artificial back. This movie probably deserves a lower rating but I found it to be a fun adaptation. This film doesn't show us anything new that we haven't already seen in a million of films but the mystery of Alitas past and the cgi effects make it a worthy enough viewing. The supporting cast is pretty dull, her love interest being the only decent one of the bunch. The villain is incredibly forgettable, I had no interest in that part of the story and dreaded every evil meeting we had to witness. The ending was good and definitely got in interested in seeing a sequel. Overall not fantastic but I think it had a lot of great moments.
