Keanu Reeves does a fantastic job managing to bring back his character for a 3rd time while making him just as exiciting since the first movie proving that he the real deal, a fantastic actor. The movie stays in within the confines of its genre which it does extremely well. It exploits the action and gunslinging while taking things to the next level. Very exciting scenes that are visually beautiful with nonstop action and with unexpected twists and turns making the movie a very fun movie to watch.
***possible SPOILERS about the ends - do not continue to read if you dont want any spoilers*** I was very disappointed that the movie does not end and leaves on a complete cliffhanger. I thought the were going to bookend everything from the first movie and make everything come around full circle or at the very least book end this movie!! The ending is very anticlimactic which was extremely disappointing. You watch the entire movie waiting for the ending but instead it leaves on another cliff hanger. The movie feels incomplete and a feeling of being robbed from all the things they built in this movie; it feels like it doesnt finish many of the plots devices created in this very movie, including the major ones setup from this and the previous movies.
It becomes obvious that the studio knows that they have something big here since all 3 movies have done really well and have increased in popularity and box office after each movie by reaching mainstream audiences all over the world. Because of this, it obvious why they chose not to end the franchise. They see this as their very own version of 'The Fast and the Furious' franchise, and they are going to keep pumping out more movies as long as they keep making money. Each movie becoming even more over the top compared its previous film, just like the Fast and the Furious franchise. I don't think we're close to seeing the ending of John Wick, they are going to keep pumping these movies out and milk it dry.
The movie heavily relies on CGI for scares. Most of the scary things that happen are not built up or suspenseful, its more along the lines of 'oh looks creepy/scary'. The characters and actors did great, both the children and adults. The story line is good, its not dull nor your standard cookie cutter horror arc.
There are some scary moments and parts that keep you intrigued, but the movie is around 2 hours and thirty minutes and you definitely feel the time. For me, it felt like there were parts where it really dragged and felt very slow; the movie felt more like a 3 hour movie because the pacing is slow at times. However, it is a great sequel and they did a great job. If the we had the technology to create the CGI that they needed then this would definitely have been a very scary movie but unfortunately its obvious that the scary parts are CGI which ends up pulling you out of the moment. I found myself just focusing on the CGI and how things didn't look real instead of what the movie was trying to make me feel.
In terms of being a sequel and finishing the story, this movie does a great job of that. The material was very good to the first movie and its as if it started just right where it left off. The movie is also very funny. They did a really good job managing to pull off the great humor that they had in the first movie, this movie may have better humor partly due to Bill Hader, he really shines when its time for comedic relief. If you are a big fan of the first chapter then you will enjoy this, the movie does an excellent job making everything go full circle while closing any plot points laid out in the first and then solidly book ending everything.
The movie is exactly what you'd expect it to be. If you are looking for a movie that is something deep or a strong story line or thought provoking this movie is not for you. This movie is very straight forward, what you see in the previews and trailers is what you get. It is a movie based in the Fast and The Furious cinematic universe and its exactly like all those movies. And it does it very very well. The movie is action packed with lots of fun with comedy sprinkled throughout. Its a a great time and very entertaining. if you love the recent films, then you are going to love this. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for something to entertain the hell out of you.
The Rock is the same character from the Fast and the Furious movies and he plays it very well but hes pretty much the same muscled ass kicking guy in all his other movies. And Jason Statham returns as well to play his character and he plays it very well and also pretty much plays the same ass kicking character he plays almost every movie hes in. Like I said its what you expect to be.
Its a very fun and entertaining watch!
