This is a movie that has a star-studded cast simply having fun and showing that what works for one person doesn't work for another. It's a really fun movie to watch when you aren't looking for a lot of thought.
This really is an excellent movie. However, it is depressing as hell and incredibly slow in places. Should be required watching for aspiring real estate agents. Those who empathize with the shark should be discouraged from continuing. Truly disturbing to watch.
While most romcoms are between two people who are single for absolutely no reason, this pair makes a relationship work when it makes perfect sense that they are single. The slapstick humor that Adam Sandler is famous for detracts from a movie that could be one of the best and leaves us with a better than average film - but definitely one of Sandler's best.
This is an excellent Cop/Criminal team-up. But it hasn't aged very well. Racism and police brutality are hard to watch in modern times. But if you can forgive all of the sins of the present, it holds up well as a piece from the past. Even if it meanders quite a bit.
Unlike most slow movies, I never wanted to turn it off. It built like waves crashing against the shore as the tide inexorably came in. A very quiet movie and it leaves you with a sense of melancholy and loss. A beautiful movie, but one that makes you want something more in your life than they achieved.
