The Last Thing He Wanted is the last Netflix movie you may ever watch without first checking reviews. Somehow, I finished the whole thing and I can only tell you it's about a reporter who runs around avoiding danger but I still have only a vague idea why and I'm not sure she even knew. It's convoluted. Non sensual. Bordering on ridiculous and 100% pointless.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Ah-mazing. Not sure how it didn't sweep every Best Film award. Incredibly clever, funny, quirky, heartfelt film that looks through the eyes of a German child during Hitler's reign, showing the child's blind allegiance (and, need to be the "man" of the house) softening as he grows to care for a Jewish girl his mother is hiding. The children are charming and performances just lovely and brilliant, barring a wee wobble here and there in Scar-Jo's accent. As always, Rockwell, though rarely seen, is sublime. Roman Griffin Davis deserved nomination for his smashing and natural performance.
