Smart and thought-provoking, if a bit slow-paced. Has you questioning the reliability of the narrator in a really interesting way. Poses some intriguing futuristic ethical questions as well. Relatively satisfying ending too! Superb performance by Rockwell.
A disturbing insight into the impact a famed serial killer has on his family. The film is enthralling throughout, but not really groundbreaking in any way.
The characters and the concept here are very interesting and give the film a good foundation. However, some of the twists and turns the story takes seem ultimately unnecessary and are only present to advance an annoyingly preachy moral. By the time "Contact" finally comes to a close at least 30 minutes later than needed, that moral is hitting you over the head like a club. Strong performances by the lead actors make up for that somewhat, but all in all the promising ideas in the film are weighed down by its sheer plodding length and its message.
Really interesting and suspenseful, especially in the beginning. Things take a weird turn toward the end and it eventually gets into a sequence of events that strays from the movie's strong mystery-style start. Still a fun ride overall, though.
One of my all-time favorites. Critiques capitalism directly enough to come across to the average viewer, but not too blatantly as to be overwhelming or inaccessible. It's also a fascinating examination of the pressures placed on people in American capitalism. A lot of the time, you have to "sell your soul" on some level to improve your standard of living. It's fun and serious all at once, and some really weird stuff goes down toward the end that turns the film on its head just when you think you know where it's going. Masterful.
