Great story, beautifully shot, masterfully acted, and stunning costumes to boot. I'm a sucker for historical dramas with strong female leads, but the mysterious tone and LGBT representation makes this 5 stars.
A relic of my high school era, this movie is awesome for so many reasons. Not only is it a re-telling of Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew', it stars actors who went on to become stars in Hollywood (Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and who actually look like they're in high school. Better yet, the dialogue and pacing still comes off as witty over 20 years later. This is 'The Breakfast Club' of my era.
Nothing beats a 90's British rom-com featuring Hugh Grant as a lovable perpetual bachelor & his misfit group of friends (including Kristine Thompson) as they attend a series of four weddings (and a funeral) over the course of a year. Big hats, British humour (Rowan Atkinson as the world's most nervous priest), and maybe true love is found along the way.
Sisters, witches, love, heartbreak & a side of murder, all in a sleepy east coast town. With a down-to-earth (and slightly repressed) Sandra Bulluck learning how to embrace her inner witch while helping her risque and scatter-brained sister Nicole Kidman. Stockard Channing & Dianne West portray their lovable eccentric aunts, and if this movie doesn't give you all the feels for Halloween and becoming a bohemian witch in Maine, I don't know what will.
If you've just had a breakup or major life crisis, this movie helps give you hope. A writer, who finds herself divorced and falling into a depression, takes a chance and buys a villa in Tuscany. Lots of amazing Italian scenery, food & lovable characters pass through her life as she learns to simply enjoy life again.
