I really actually liked it ..I wasn't expecting to I was watching it for my husband. I'm not sure if we missed the movie telling us the date at the start of the movie but once we figured out they were in the late nineties early 2000 things did fit better. It seemed very wholesome and I'm not sure if things really were anymore wholesome in the political arena but, they weren't as horrible as they are today. A lot of really great actors and it goes back and forth between action and story so it does have too much of either. It was actually impressively balanced. I really like that this story was brought forward. I think it's an important war that we don't learn enough about.
It was a really good movie. I watched it with my husband and we both like it which isn't often that we both like the same movie. I like drama and he typically only likes action without to much thinking. This was fast paced enough to keep him from having to over think.
Loved this film!!! I'm mostly into WWII films and books so I started this thinking it was going to go into the war. I loved the way it started with the son interviewing the dad and how he popped in his feelings about the situation but not so much that you were going back and forth but I was wondering how he really felt if this was real and a couple minutes later part of the interview is played and it helped me sink back in. It felt like a old movie with better picture and sound quality. There isn't action but there are surprises you aren't expecting at all. It's one of those stories that if someone were to tell you, you would stop and wonder for a minute if they were serious. It's really good you have to finish it. The girl in it was silly giggly and it drove me a little crazy but in real life people do drive others crazy. I do wonder now if she was really like that. In the beginning I wondered something and in the end it was confirmed but through most of the film he really made me believe I had guessed wrong.
I love Scottish stories and actually really enjoyed this film. It makes me want to research more on Robert the Bruce. It had a story line and enough action to keep my husband busy while I enjoyed the rest. You rarely think of all the families that lost husbands, fathers, sons and daughters during that time and how they continued to fight.
I loved the cast of course and it is just a great feel good movie in a time where I feel like feel good movies are needed. It is a chick flick for sure and I watched it with my husband which is never a good idea since he can't get into any movie especially love movies. Josh Duhamel was excellent like always and Nora Dunn is such a great actress. I plan on watching again just so I can watch the entire thing without having to analyze farming...don't watch with anyone who has milked cows before either haha It is mixed with drama and sweet moments as well..... my favorite part of course is at the farmers market because, I really hate mean girls!!! haha
