Was looking for a scary film for Halloween, and this film delivered! It's as creepy as the first Conjuring, maybe even more so because of the young age of some of the villains. I skipped the first Annabelle because of its bad reviews and don't feel like I missed anything; this film has its own self-contained plot. The young actresses also did a nice job.
Basically an exploration of how the religious right has used and manipulated queer people looking for acceptance and belonging as props for their anti-gay, conversion therapy message. The focus is more on the emotional turmoil the therapy causes queer people, rather than on the ugly, self-serving politics underlying the effort to begin with.
