Hannah Gadsby: Douglas (2020)
Hannah Gadsby's Douglas is marketed as stand-up comedy, which in this case is false advertisement. There are some thought-provoking stories and views on gender inequality and the life-experiences of people on the autism spectrum in the show, but the jokes are too weak, easy and predictable to justify the 'genre-shattering' status Douglas receives from many critics. In my opinion, repackaging content that relies so heavily on transmitting socio-political views and so little on the art of writting/perfoming comedy as stand-up comedy is nothing more than a marketing tactic that aught to be called out by critics as a dishonest and gimmicky way to find an audience, regardless of whether or not they agree with Gadsby's views.
