Overall not a good film, clearly a cash grab which isn't inherently bad but it definitely showed throughout this movie. The music choice was dull and plan. Not to mention "live and let die" being played at king Harold's funeral. To be frank the full king Harold death sequence was hard to watch as they treated this man's death as a joke. I know he's a cartoon character but it still felt so insensitive. Little to none of the jokes landed. I can't believe this was the 3rd film to what was otherwise a fantastic series. And the worst part was it wasn't even all that entertaining. Which may be the worse criticism I can give it.
This is my absolute favourite instalment in the Shrek franchise, from the music choice to jokes not to even mention the fantastic climax! I would recommend it for any family movie night or even just a casual watch alone.
Personally I very much like this movie, it was a genuinely nice ending to the series. I was crying by the end of it of pure joy though that could be due to me being an overly sensitive person. I love the dynamic of Shrek and Fiona, the swap of Shrek being the one believing in true love and Fiona being a hardened woman who has seen the cruelties of the world is truly refreshing and brings me back to the first movie just with the personalities switched. I also loved seeing donkey being a good friend to Shrek for the first time since the 1st movie. Though it will never be the 2nd movie, we can all agree. It's one million times better than Shrek the 3rd.
