This movie is pretty dope!! (ha ha) A Thousand Junkies is a surprisingly accurate portrayal of the junkie scene. It very rarely made me feel like I was watching a movie, which is difficult b/c I've seen all of the actors in other roles. It's smart, funny, insightful, and fun. Pretty much every scene is well-shot, with a great gritty eye for detail.
Music might just be the real star of this film. I usually know every song I hear in a theater. ThiS soundtrack had me pressing pause, and looking up music I had never heard before. I love to hear deep tracks like this in a film.
I'm not exactly sure why... but I freakin' LoVE this movie. I can't help but watch it all the way through any time it re-runs on cable. Debra Winger is hopelessly fall-in-lovable, and Scott Glenn plays the evil badass to a tee. I must have watched this flick 40 times by now, though I'd never admit it in real life.
THIS is how to shoot a live-music scene for film... Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman need to take a lesson from Gutterbug. I'm a punk-rock fan, and the live scene with Nice Guys could not have been done better. Amazing job!
