It's amiable, it's genuinely funny, and it's not the demonic white racist movie that a lot of people seem to have gotten riled up about in reviews. Blackface - we get it, it's not OK. We've moved on. In terms of actual content, and intentions, it is well-meaning. At its heart it's a comedy, not a movie about racism, though it does highlight (albeit in a more delicate manner than it had scope to) some aspects of the latter. I think C. Thomas did well, and the supporting performances from RDC, JEJ, and AG are equally noteworthy
I hadn't approached this knowing it was a Biographical Drama... Wow. What a story. The psychological abuse, the development of negative coping strategies as the years roll on, as well as the various relationships that mean something to Tobias, are all so well portrayed by everyone involved
Pressed 'play' expecting to feel warm and fuzzy. It was endearing, humorous, engaging and enjoyable... and yes, my eyes leaked (thr... fo... five times)! OK?! Now, let's move on... Hahaha. Some good performances tie everything together, and really make this something quite special
JCVD, baby! It's been too long since I've watched one of his movies. I've seen this one before, but too long ago to worry about remembering much
Typical of its era, this is an action thriller built on drama, but its attempts at suspense seem to fall short. Harewood is awful, and makes the first half of the movie feel more hammy than it otherwise would have been
Unusually, the child-actors aren't too bad, and seem to do alright, which makes it a lot easier to watch. I like Boothe, and he delivers his performance brilliantly
All-in-all, a good action flick of its day... just ignore the ending! Lol
