This movie is just amazing:
1. The animation is insanely unique and the perfect style for this world: so vibrant and colorful with striking and memorable imagery in almost any scene.
2. The story balances multiple characters but gives each of them great moments and development. Miles is a perfect protagonist for this story, the slight subversion on the older Spider-Man fits, Kingpin is given enough backstory to understand, and the Prowler twist is handled so well. Amazing voice acting for each of these characters as well.
3. The plot should be all over the place, but the writing and directing smoothly moves you through this movie like you're turning the pages of a comic book.
4. I really felt the weight of this world and the characters: when Spider-Man is killed, I am reacting in the same way as Miles- watching a seemingly invincible icon and personal hero get beaten by the bad guy. I felt Miles struggles with his dad and the expectations on him. When Miles finally gets in touch with his abilities and accepts that this is who he is, I truly felt for him. Hell, the Stan Lee cameo is even one of the most emotional scenes in the movie: my sister and I were both crying when we watched this in theaters the first time after his death.
Ultimately, this movie is just a Spider-Man fans perfect movie, and this movie is an experience that I will always enjoy and remember fondly, and I regard it as one of if not the best animated/superhero movies of all time.
I liked Marlon Wayans in Scary Movie, and I think he really gives this movie his all with his acting. I can get down with some very dumb and inappropriate/offensive humor, but this movie's attempts at making me laugh had me cringing. Halfway through the movie I had to turn it off because it was so bad, which I almost never do for a movie.
Don't get confused by the high star review: this movie is very dumb and ridiculous with humor that some people will just not like, while also be a parody of several movies at once. However, I am someone who has seen almost none of the movies that it parodies and I still had such a fun time watching this. I guess it is just my style of humor, because I was laughing at most of the jokes and gags, and each character has at least one funny and memorable scene/line. It's just the dumb high school guy that still lives in me that loves this humor, but anytime I watch this with a friend or group of friends we all walk away with a smile on our faces. This movie is far better than many of the other spoofs out there, and I give it a 4/5 because it never fails to make me laugh
My gf loved this movie as a teenager, and I was pretty hesitant of this movie because some of the movie humor she used to like has not aged well. I was planning to sit on my phone and have a couple of laughs when Jonah Hill said something goofy, but after 5 minutes I started giving it my full attention because of the surprisingly good humor. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill own this movie because of their acting combined with the hilarious writing. It isn't perfect because the plot and side characters could have been a bit more complex/fleshed out, but this movie isn't aiming to be some insightful film about drug use- it is a buddy cop movie that delivers plenty of laughs if dumb guy humor is your thing, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
I'm in college and I've recently been watching some horror classics that nobody (me or my friends) have seen. This movie was absolutely awful, and I get that it is a product of its time but man was it bad. The gore was bad and the kills were so unsatisfying, it was almost comical. Some scenes dragged on for so long while containing absolutely no content. The acting was bad and they had no character, so you don't care about any deaths- which are, again, underwhelming. This movie just does not hold up with time and I could not imagine ever wanting to watch it again, I can't think of one good thing about the movie, sorry :(
