First out of the gate, when you see a Tomatometer reading only 50% and an Audience rating of 71% you know it has to be a good movie. Second, even though you may not have been too crazy about the author's books (like myself) you will come to love this biopic. The story line is intriguing, the acting is superb and the film is beautifully made. Some of the settings and screen shots are to die for.
Above all, during these difficult pandemic times you find the movie both uplifting and calming. Highly recommended.
A realistic portrayal of the War in the North Atlantic. The supply line of American and Canadian armaments to Britain and Russia was an important component in defeating Hitler. This movie was made at a time when the Nazis were on the retreat and it was only a matter of time before they were defeated by the Allies.
An expertly filmed movie that is a tribute to all the sailors who made the ultimate sacrifice. May God bless them all.
An emotional movie that is all about the Gestapo chasing down any German opposition to the Nazis. It will bring tears to your eyes. It should be remembered that many Germans were against the war but were silenced by the Gestapo and the SS who threatened any citizens showing even the mildest opposition to the Nazi regime with imprisonment and almost certain execution. Much like what is happening in Russia to this day............
Roald Dahl is one of the greatest Children's authors of the second half of the twentieth century. His writing style was very fluid and is particularly easy to read as a bed time story for any 8 or 9 year old. Matilda is one his very best stories. Unfortunately the film version is of a very low calibre from every aspect. Did the director, producer or any of the actors every actually read the book? Don't bother showing this movie to your kids or grand kids. You will have much more fun picking up a copy of this book and reading it to them aloud. I know from experience.
