Stepping away from the gritty, dark and grim of the first movie this iteration has enough humor and self awareness at the absurd to keep you entertained. The stakes and threat are again ridiculous for a Suicide Squid mission (no world ending sky beam this time though) and with such a large case deaths come fast and in most part find little emotional investment. Needless to say the girls are large and in charge, with the boys mostly just doing the heavy lifting and getting the girls were they need to be. King Shark narrowly pips out Harley for best character.
Likely the weakest MCU movie to date. Danger and stakes just don't really exist as we already know what Widow goes on to do.
This of-course would be fixed if it was released after Captain America 3 but now the fact that is it truly is just a Side Quest with no impact to anything is all you come away with.
Pugh is great however and to look forward to more of her dry humor.
One more in the flood of Badass-Girl-Power movies we are seeing these days. The protagonist has an interesting hook, if you go with the in-world premise, and some of the banter is good but not enough to carry the whole run time. Eventually though you realize "jeez, haven't i seen this before... a couple of times".
Worse on all counts, ALL COUNTS, than the original. God knows i never thought i would ever hold the original up as a "good" movie, but next to this shallow fetid attempt... it is.
Watch Jordan, not LeBron.
An interest blend of existing formulas that actually works, holding your attention with action and comedy for the full run. On a foundation of Fraser's The Mummy with some added danger of Depp's Pirates with just a dash of Harrison's Indiana Jones this could be a base for Disney's next franchise, if they can lock down all three leads.
