RIP Sean. We miss you and you carried this action movie to what it has become to me and that is a cult classic. Some say in this you are actually 007 which I like to believe to make it even better. Cage does out in a great performance in this movie however he overshadowed but Sean and has to accept he's second best.
Overall its a cult classic and needs to be seen if you love action movies.
Simple review.. Astonishingly good for what it is, yes its a cheesy action movie with lines that make you puke on occasions however this has Nicholas Cage at his peak with him kicking major ass. His accent is horrific and it often makes you question what he's actually doing but if you can put that aside you have a pure classic. Action scenes amazing, acting amazing, star studded and has a kick ass guitar riff.
Overall I love this movie and if you love action movies you need this in you're collection.
Simple review here.... Great classic that you can watch over and over again! perfect for those rainy boring nights where you just want to switch off and watch Stallone climb stuff and murder easy lines. This will forever hold a place in my heart and if you haven't seen it yet please give it ago if you love 90's action movies.
This movie is so bad that it actually becomes comedy gold. I love shark movies and they always make me feel slightly on edge however this movie had me laughing my butt off! The end sequence was just epic and honestly worth watching just for this moment. Watching the MEG devour poor beach goers was hilarious, my personal favourite kill was when a guy was running inside a giant bubble zorb.. on the water.. over children..whilst the Meg chases him! honestly it had me in stitches and to top it off when it catches him it makes a pop sound effect and it ended me.
Overall the film has a big budget with a mediocre script and a Jason just there for the cheque, if you like Sharknado this may be for you on comedy alone.
Watching this movie back again recently with the Blu ray remaster was beautiful yet it had me wishing for the gritty VHS edition.
As you would expect with a blu ray remaster it will
Have all the bells and whistles to blow you away. Yes, it has lots bright colours clear scenes and lovely sound however I couldn't help but miss the original not so filtered version. It somehow loses the nostalgic gritty vibe, when you first encounter the warlocks and the dark caves of which they dwell, it creates more atmosphere with it being hard to see and more impactful when the first torch is lit. I am stuck between two versions of this movie where in one sense I love the crystal clear scenes where he flows through time and the animations do there wonders yet taken out out of the moment in the too bright and sharpened dramatic scenes.
Overall this doesn't matter to you guys reading than review but I would suggest to watch this on VHS or dvd first and experience the full
Nostalgia. If that's not your thing then great the beautiful Blu Ray version awaits you also.
Nostalgia Nostalgia Nostalgia! YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY AND IT FEELS SO RIGHT!
I recently went back to this gem on Disney plus and OMG was it a nostalgic ride which really had me laughing dancing and feeling like a kid again.
I won't go into a deep review I will simply tell you the facts, its not going to blow you away with plot or story but it will become addictive to watch and take you back to a time where films were silly fun and very high school ridiculous. If you love Britney come here for the soundtrack alone, if you love entourage come here for Adrian and if you love Sabrina the teenage witch come here for Melissa!
This film had me nervous, on edge and had me deeply saddened by its story ark.
I had stumbled across it whilst looking for a late night film to watch with my Fiancé. As usual we spent ages digging for one we could agree on to watch as most streaming sights have a plethora of horror movies.
We was so happy that we had found this one, it has tremendous acting with all characters hitting their marks and really pulling you into the jewish community and how they respect and value the deceased and the living.
It's scary in places but the most freighting aspect of this movie is more the main characters mental health and handling of death of a close one, It is something we can all resonate with. By the end I couldn't quite tell if the real demons were in the shadows or in his mind and this is what really hit home for me, a great horror movie with a real deep hidden message now how many do you know that have achieved that?
Mozal tov The vigil <3
Right... lets get this bit out the way before laying on the praise. This film does blow its full load too early and has a third act not quite clicking with the first two.
Man is this film funny as hell! it had me waking up my 1 year old son with laughter which coincidently had me in trouble with the Mrs.
Its a dark, gorey and whacky rollercoaster that had me feeling a way i had not felt in many years with a movie! This will be cult film in years to come and I really hope it inspires other directors and creatives to just let loose and not be so serious with the movies they create.
- Great story
- Insane humour
- Poor third act
Had some great monster on monster action however fell short with the story and character development. I had zero care for any of the characters and even kong was soulless and had no personality. The only shining light was Samuel Jackson who at least made it slightly entertaining and brought some life to the role.
Great fight scenes
Adds nothing new to the genre and it left me with one linguring question.....
WHO WENT TO CHINA??!!
This one woman single handily stopped a young journalist from pursuing his dreams with a great lead and traumatised the rest of team in pursuit of her silly tunnel fetish.
Good shaky camera work
Where shall I begin... The Platform? The Station? The insane Ukrainian night club with strippers? This movie really has it all.
The gore in this movie will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, it holds no punches and makes you second guess yourself at every opportunity.
If only the decision making from the main protagonist was as no holds bar as the nail ripping blood fest.
She really struggles to achieve the one thing which any normal human want to do in her situation... GET OFF THE TRAIN!
On numerous occasions she has opportunities to make an escape or even take out those pursuing her, however she finds every way possible to mess that up.
Not diving into spoilers but by the end of the film I actually felt more concerned for her friend who was not only tortured but held hostage by soldiers. At no point did anyone try to go back for her or even alert authorities later on of her situation. Instead she is forgotten and the main protagonist continues with her wrestling career and sports a new ruby rose hair cut which is clearly a representation of her tough time away.
Overall this film won't knock your socks off nor will it be the best horror you will ever see however it does leave you with deeper thoughts a few days later and you will often just think about small scenes from the movie. Not many movies can have that affect, often they are wiped from my memory within a few hours so for that reason it gets 3.5 Stars from me.
