Movie Ratings and Reviews

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Nice effects and really quite unsettling at times, but overall, quite disappointing

Interesting idea, but despite the stellar cast, was quite disappointing

Pineapple Express

I didn't really have that high expectations of this so it pleasantly surprised. There were times though when i could tell they were trying so hard to make us laugh and it just fell flat. But as i said I didn't have high hopes so it didn't disappoint.

Was very impressed with this. I kinda knew it was gonna be good judging by the cast

Interstate 60

Contains two of my fave actors, albeit with quite short screen times, and it's from the same guys who did BTTF. What's not to love? :D

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

Amazingly funny! And incredibly clever. The delivery of lines are spot on. The questions scene in the tennis court almost had me on the floor! :D

The Dark Knight

"Where do we begin?"
Words cannot possibly describe how much i love this movie.
As much as i had prepared myself to be let down after the incredible pressure that i put on it to live up to my expections (which were sky high) every second was a complete and utter masterclass of how movies should but rarely are done.
Ledger was outstanding and i hold my hands up in defeat as i was one of THOSE people who thought his casting was a mistake... How wrong i have been proved.

Keeping the Faith

I have a REAL soft spot for this movie! Can't think why... ;)

The Incredible Hulk

I couldn't get enough of this movie when it was in cinemas, saw it QUITE a few times, and the only thing that stopped me? They took it away from me! :(
Ed Norton is, as always, sublime and Tim Roth, just as fantastic.
Would i like this movie had it been a different cast? Perhaps... I'd imagine so. It's a great character driven story and you can't help but feel so sorry for Banner.
I'm incredibly eager to see the director's cut on DVD.

In Bruges
In Bruges(2008)

Such a darkly funny movie. It really starts to gear up when Harry finally shows up. If Ralph Fiennes didn't try to emulate Ben Kingsley's Don Logan... I will eat my left arm... and my right,...
not that that was a bad example to follow, if anything, inspired!

Léon: The Professional

Gary Oldman is so scary but totally amazing in this! Actually big thumbs up all round to the whole cast!
Having now seen this on the big screen... my life is now complete! :D

Made in Britain

to think that this was tim roth's 1st major role is pretty damn impressive.

oh my freaking GOD! this movie just cemented david thewlis in my fave actors list! just brilliant acting! this is such an unsettling watch but utterly fantastic.

Secrets & Lies

great acting all round

Career Girls
Career Girls(1997)

similar to happy-go-lucky in that nothing really happens. but nice little character study.

i absolutely adored this movie! one of the few that made me smile for days after watching it. brilliant. probably my favourite mike leigh film, well, ties with naked

i really rather liked this

Run Fatboy Run

actually alright! wasn't really expecting much but its quite a good laugh. mostly due to dylan moran of course! ;)

The English Patient

can't believe its taken me THIS long to see this movie. stunning! absolutely marvellous.

i cried...

Sid and Nancy

i fuckin LOVE this movie! i love the pistols and i totally adore gary oldman who looks, sings and spits like the real thing! however, it's clear to see from this who would go on to be the greater respected of the two lead actors... half a star off for the sheer irritancy of chloe webb!

i thought i woulda absolutely loved this. it's got the who's music running through its veins with performances from both phil daniels (who was great in meantime) and ray winstone, but it didn't really live up to expectations. well disappointed. :(

Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction(1994)

quite overrated i thought...

Sexy Beast
Sexy Beast(2000)

fantastic! gets better with each viewing.

Dead Man's Shoes

great acting from considine.

Funny Games
Funny Games(2008)

i loved this! is that really fucked up???

Kingdom of Heaven

who's clever idea was it to give a leading role to Orlando Bloom? the guy can't act to save himself! such a waste of fantastic talent elsewhere.

Reservoir Dogs

possibly my favourite tarantino film.

perhaps i don't own a sense of humour, but i really did not get this. it just wasn't that funny. ellen page however, was pretty good though i have to say that.

i actually quite liked what i saw of this! bit of mindless entertainment

There Will Be Blood

daniel day-lewis is thoroughly deserving of both the oscar and bafta and any other accolades he gets for this. paul dano is also incredible, why did he not get even acknowledged? the academy is strange. but the film is still absolutely fantastic! if a little long.

Be Kind Rewind

i reckon you'll love this if you're a jack black fan... which i ain't, therefore the low rating!

Planet of the Apes

slightly better than i thought it'd be. mostly because i spent half the movie going, "is that really tim roth?!"

I'm Not There

really quite tedious i thought

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Hmmm, i'm really not quite sure what i make of this yet.

This just gets better every time i see it! But something still confuses me. Why oh why was Ray Winstone cast in the lead role? I bloody love the guy, but it seemed a bit pointless if they used just his head and someone elses body!

Death at a Funeral

just one word... hilarious!

Immortal Beloved

The Emperor Concerto scene was, in my opinion, possibly one of the most breathtaking scenes in film history. Beautifully captured the torment and devastion felt by this genius of a man.

Is it just me or was the character of Ego, a reject straight from a Tim Burton movie?

Dead Fish
Dead Fish(2004)

"Who makes windows that don't fackin open?" Priceless!

I rather liked this! I wasn't familiar with the bands work so that wasn't the reason i saw it. Was a little too long but thought it was well acted and the direction and cinematography were spot on.

Across the Universe

contender for my favourite film this year.

True Romance
True Romance(1993)

hmmm did Johnny Depp ever see this movie i wonder???... :P

it's... just as the title suggests.

Nil by Mouth
Nil by Mouth(1998)

really quite a harrowing watch but fantastic performances from the whole cast, especially ray winstone who is both incredibly vicious and terrifying.

Breakfast on Pluto

Cillian Murphy is actuallly amazing in this!

Batman Begins

i was a liil bit apprehensive about this being a big fan of the earlier Burton films, but WOW!

Death to Smoochy

very surreal but really quite funny!

is it wrong to be falling more in love with this movie every time i see it??? :S

Shrek the Third

not as good as the 1st two but what they hey!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

actually an ok movie... and this is coming from someone who doesn't give a toss about the whole potter thing. maybe it's got something to do with the amazing cast!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

yaaas! so much better than the second!
AND there's Keef!

"Nobody move...." :D

28 Weeks Later...

i haven't seen all of this yet, but what i've seen was impressivley brutal.

The Painted Veil

top notch performances from both actors

Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man 3(2007)

it was awrite, nothin special. certainly didn't live up 2 the hype surrounding it. far, FAR too long. and wot's the deal with there being 3 (or 4 if you count parker's internal conflict) villains? too much goin on. thumbs up on the fab effects tho. ;)

just naw! not a patch on the david tennant bbc incarnation... :P

one of the few, scrap that, the ONLY film that really rivals The Matrix. awesome fight sequences and fucked up plot! bale even LOOKS like neo! ;)

Wild Hogs
Wild Hogs(2007)

leave your brain at the door. good music though! ;)

i seem to be the only one but i fuckin loved this! :)

Blades of Glory

was awrite but a bit too like zoolander, and just not as funny. may have worked better without, dare i say it... will ferrell! :O

Happy Feet
Happy Feet(2006)

the baby penguin that was in the trailer is possibly the cutest thing ever!

The Constant Gardener

to be honest i thought this was a completely different film to what it actually was. i assumed that it was a lot more political than it was and didn't think the love story took such central focus. pretty good all the same.

bit slow to start i thought, but once it got goin it was quite impressive. incredibly shot and builds tension beautifully. ending was a bit of a cop out though methinks...

St. Elmo's Fire

what's the deal with like HALF the cast of the breakfast club bein in this???

what i've seen has been ace!
and maybe it's just me but i think that Wenham's character is waaaay cooler than Butler's

The Queen
The Queen(2006)

never mind Helen Mirren, Michael Sheen fuckin ROCKS! :D

Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider(2007)

"YOU" *points*
dear GOD! just awful

The Illusionist

not as good as the prestige, still pretty cool tho i thought.

Epic Movie
Epic Movie(2007)

i s'pose this could be either really awful or really quite good...

Hot Fuzz
Hot Fuzz(2007)

it was awrite, but not really that funny at all. plus the cameos weren't exactly put to great use i thought.

My Own Private Idaho

very very very bizarre... good though!

Some Like It Hot

was force fed this on more than 1 occasion at school and to hear the teacher say over and over again that it was amazing and the best comedy ever made and then to sit and watch a film ye weren't really interested in n the 1st place... doesnae do much. not as great as people make out... thats just me! ;)

Casino Royale

contains one of the wittiest lines i've heard in a long time...
"that last hand nearly killed me" (has most impact when viewed with the preceding scene)

Blood Diamond

what i've seen has been awrite. leo's accent is the funniest thing ever captured on film, so you tend to laugh out loud at the most inappropriate moments! :D BUT i love what they've done with michael sheen's character... well this is just my interpretation. he looks quite like Tony Blair and has played him in the film the queen. this movie has a message that we have sat on our butts while child soldiers and slaves supply diamonds to the west. so does the diamond broker represent more than one person, possibly western governments?

The Green Mile

just brilliant. the only film i can stand tom hanks in.

Wayne's World 2

one word... Aerosmith!!! YAAAS!
way better than the 1st.

Bright Young Things

a really good british film,... oh my god what is happening to me? i swore never to like a british film and now look at me :( got some fab british talent in it though, michael sheen, james mcavoy, emily mortimer and david tennant

some great british talent in this. it's way better than the sequel although the sfx are shockingly bad.
the third 1 will be better.......

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no tani no Naushika)

brilliantly imaginitive and fantastically animated.

Wayne's World

i'll prob get shot down in flames for sayin this buuuuut....
i thought this film was alrite... nothin special. now i love mike myers but this just wisnae as fun as i'd expected it to be...

Miss Potter
Miss Potter(2007)

this wisnae half bad, considering i loathe zellweger (however the hell u spell her name!)
looks stunning and there are great performances all round...

Pan's Labyrinth

tbh, this didn't live up to the hype surrounding it. i thought it was a fantastic film don't get me wrong, but didn't concentrate on the "fantasy" aspects enough for me... maybe i just have high standards!

Damn it why did i choose to work in a cinema that chooses NEVER to show these type of films! really good film, very sweet and life affirming

I Heart Huckabees

love the fight scene near the end, sooo funny!

Schindler's List

a bit too long but really powerful shit!
the very last scene nearly had me in tears

Deep Impact
Deep Impact(1998)

quite bad... so why have i watched it on more than 1 occasion? :S
morgan freeman would make a fab president... much better than the infantile currently bombing iraq...

Watership Down

classic. so bloody sad tooo! :'(

Night at the Museum

really quite funny! yet another awesome cameo from Owen Wilson. Steve Coogan as well... wow! :D

i had totally forgotten just how good this film was til seeing it again this xmas. such a uniquely funny film.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

If just for the few (brilliant) scenes with David Tennant! "it's the new Doctor..."

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

to think i used to be scared of Judge Doom as a kid... i just recently realised... it's the Doc!! :O

Whisper of the Heart (Mimi wo sumaseba) (If You Listen Closely)

i LOVE this! its just so sweeeet! such a feel good film!
or maybe i'm just in one of my "aaawwww" moods! :P

interesting direction

Love Actually

ok... i'm gonna regret sayin this... this was actually alright. there are a few people in this i like so maybe thats why. it certainly made the hugh grant scenes more paletable cos i knew he wouldnae be on very long! :P

School of Rock

just for the FAB music!

Stranger Than Fiction

this was pretty top notch. refreshing to see will ferrell in a role that didn't require him to "act" funny. well written and there's some fab visuals as well. interesting concept if a little far fetched. still good all the same.

The Prestige
The Prestige(2006)

ok seein the whole thing right the way through... still doesn't make that much sense at all! but bloody good though!

Starter for 10

sweet & quite funny at times

Charlize Theron is feckin awesome in this, no wonder she won the Oscar for it

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

possibly THE stupidest (such a word?) film of the year... yes even beating snakes on a plane! don't get me wrong i like my stupid comedies but this was just tooo stupid and i just didn't find it funny at all.

Bottle Rocket

pretty damn funny. yet another fab film from Anderson and incredibly funny writing from both the Wilsons.

wasn't half as bad as i thought it'd be. cliched, but bloody funny at times!

An Inconvenient Truth

really powerful stuff. it was like sitting through a lecture, but an interesting and thought provoking 1.

Open Season
Open Season(2006)

what i've seen has been pretty decent. come on Billy Connolly is worth the ticket price... "i'll be kickin your furry brown bahookie!"

The Wicker Man

i saw some of the remake before i saw this and have to say this 1 was slightly better, but a little slow to start though

Nina's Heavenly Delights

i watched quite a bit of this in work because, well i had nothin better to do, it was actually quite good, apart from some of the dodgy Glaswegian accents from the obviously English actors

really quite funny at times and who woulda thought God was really Alanis Morissette?

not really that great but then i didn't think it was gonna be! the squirrel in it is very reminiscent of a certain other animated squirrel in another recent movie...

Rain Man
Rain Man(1988)

Dustin Hoffman is just amazing in this, no wonder the man got an Oscar for it

Pom Poko (Heisei tanuki gassen pompoko) (The Raccoon War)

another tale of deforestation and not as original as the other Ghiblis, still nicely animated though. however a bit dodgy at times, i didn't really wanna c the nether regions of a racoon or 20! :|

Legally Blonde

Not half as bad as i thought it was gonna be

Dungeons & Dragons

i think there's only 1 good scene in it...

The Commitments

saw this unintentionally - it was forced down my throat at college, it was actually ok and far superior to the book which was such a tedious read

Ghost in the Shell

i understood it... honestly...
just don't ask me any questions bout it 'k?!

Red Dragon
Red Dragon(2002)

fantastic acting by all

Legends of the Fall

only for the fantastic acting by hopkins...

i thought this was gonna be total sh!t but i was quite surprised to find that it was just sh!t... nah it ain't too bad really ;)

Jerry Maguire

Vanilla Sky
Vanilla Sky(2001)

wtf was that about then?!

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

great direction and post modern feel. i didn't see the twist coming but unfortunately thought it wasn't a very original one, in complete contrast with the movie itself. the 1st time in a long time i actually could stand watching brad pitt...

Porco Rosso (Kurenai no buta)

i liked how they never told you why he has a pig's head, leaves it to your imagination which is a more powerful tool than a writer's pen...

The Ant Bully

this was actually ok! thought i'd hate it, but t'was bearable!

Kiki's Delivery Service

not as imaginative as the other Ghibli films i've seen, slightly disappointing

My Neighbor Totoro

fab film but wish Totoro was in it a bit more often. plus it was a bit slow to start as well...

Shattered Glass

surprisingly good considering it's just about a bunch of journalists... maybe i liked it cos that's an area of study for me... :S

The Matrix Revolutions

i thought this was actually great. maybe it was just cos i might've read a lil too much into the story and how it developed and all the symbolism used. i thought it was clever, but just ignore me, i'm a geek when it comes to that kinna thing! ;)

The Matrix Reloaded

the weaker of the three

Muriel's Wedding

is there anyone that HASN'T seen this film? it seems 2 be on tv evry week!

Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo(2003)

love the turtles, the main 1 i was totally convinced was voiced by Alex Winters, but i was wrong! sounds soooo like him... dude! ;)

wasn't a very satisfactory ending, good film though

hm, thought it was a bit long, but the last scene was just amazingly done, fab acting and great direction, the suspense was just superb

The 40 Year Old Virgin

yeah it was ok, thought it'd be funnier than it was, but omg, the waxing scene was just hilarious :D

A Scanner Darkly

we didn't get this in work (boooo!) so i had to actually spend money to see this at a rival cinema. i thought it was good. ok the story was a bit wacky but that's the whole idea, really great, interesting concept and looked absolutely stunning!

simply for the Wilson brothers cameo! ;)

Mouse Hunt(1997)

Nathan Lane AND Lee Evans?! OMG a must see! ;)

Mrs. Doubtfire

"dude looks like a lady!" ;)

"i like to move it, move it!" :D

The Da Vinci Code

hmm, just not as good as the 1st one, but still a great movie

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown

an absolute masterpiece, ten times better than the original! and that's rare

Over the Hedge

very funny and Hammy is just completely adorable

haven't seen all of it yet but what i have seen has been totally fab! love the Doc Hollywood type storyline

The Lake House

a sweet film but the ending totally ruined it for me. if you've seen this and Back to the Future you'll know what i'm talking about...

Mean Girls
Mean Girls(2004)

really good, quite funny at times

Behind Enemy Lines

was interesting to see Owen Wilson in a semi-serious role here

Road to Perdition

never really got into it, switched off about 20 mins into it

so stupid, yet so funny :D

Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy

just not as good as what i thought it would be, plus i'm not exactly a member of the Will Ferrell appreciation society...

simply for the soundtrack... :D

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Depp is just absolutely fantastic playing Jack (sorry CAPTAIN Jack!) He was born for that role
