B 89% Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) " There is something for everyone in this big, sprawling adventure film with political commentaries and absurd conspiracies, but there is a lot less comedy than there was in 'Thor: The Dark World,' for instance." — Laramie Movie Scope

B 77% Noah (2014) " The film delivers the spectacle very well, but it also delivers some fine performances by Crowe, Connolly and Watson. This may not be your granddad's version of Noah, but it is quite a yarn, and thought-provoking, too." — Laramie Movie Scope

Posted Mar 24, 2014
C 37% The Fifth Estate (2013) " The film never seems to know what it wants to be, or where it is going with all of these gimmicks, gadgets and subplots. It ends up as a yawner, a thriller with no thrills, history without context." — Laramie Movie Scope

B 64% August: Osage County (2013) " It is kind of like a Shakespearean play without the swords, knives and blood on the stage, but there is a corpse." — Laramie Movie Scope
Posted Mar 24, 2014
B 78% Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) " It is a very sweet story, with plenty of humor and adventure too. The characters are well developed. The artwork is colorful and vivid." — Laramie Movie Scope

B 96% The Lego Movie (2014) " One can imagine that this story is a reflection of the same kind of struggle that happened during the making of this movie between the corporate suits of Lego, who exercised some control over the film, and the creative people who made the movie." — Laramie Movie Scope
Posted Feb 18, 2014
B 33% The Monuments Men (2014) " The all-star cast does a good job with the material and the production values are very good. The story gets its point across and is reasonably historically accurate (with a lot of dramatic license)." — Laramie Movie Scope

C+ 56% Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) " This is a conventional Hollywood spy action film, but Chris Pine shows he is up to the mark as Jack Ryan. Now, if they can just find a smarter script next time ..." — Laramie Movie Scope

B+ 94% Her (2014) " As expected for such an acclaimed film, it is extremely well-written and well acted. It is a wonderful love story. But computer sex? I couldn't quite buy it. Trust me fellas, the computer is faking it." — Laramie Movie Scope

C+ 32% A Teacher (2013) " Lindsay Burdge gives a fine performance in this film. The story starts out looking predictable, and it is. The only mystery is why the main character behaves the way she does, and that is not explained." — Laramie Movie Scope

C+ 60% Kiss Of The Damned (2013) " Writer-director Xan Cassavetes is trying to go beyond the usual boundaries of the vampire genre. She doesn't quite succeed, but at least she tries." — Laramie Movie Scope

A 93% We Steal Secrets: The Story Of Wikileaks (2013) " It isn't propaganda, it's journalism. This is a very controversial film among Assange's followers because it shows Assange to be less than the Messiah they think he is. This provides an exit from news echo chambers." — Laramie Movie Scope
Posted Jan 1, 2014
B 77% Venus And Serena (2013) " This documentary shows that the Williams sisters have always been judged by a different standard than everyone else, except in terms of wins and losses. It is the Williams family against the world, and they like it that way." — Laramie Movie Scope

C 45% To The Wonder (2013) " Terrence Malick's films have not been very accessible in the past. If this one is any indication, they are becoming less so. The narrative is thin, slow moving and ambiguous in places. It is moody, sombre and melancholy." — Laramie Movie Scope

B 79% No Place On Earth (2013) " This is the remarkable story of a few of Holocaust survivors who lived over 500 days in caves, coming out into the light only when the German army had been driven from the Ukraine." — Laramie Movie Scope

B 95% Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) " It works as a character study and as an illustration of how tough the music business is, and was. While there are some good songs in the film, the music doesn't represent the scope of folk music of that era very well." — Laramie Movie Scope

B 94% Drug War (2013) " This film about cops and drug dealers in China is a lot like a story set in the Old West with outlaws and lawmen engaged in gun battles. There probably is a point to all this conflict that is lost in the translation." — Laramie Movie Scope

C 83% Welcome To Pine Hill (2013) " This is a film that is both short on plot and stretched out in time. If it weren't for the hand-held camera lingering on some shots way too long with no cuts, this film would be only about 40 minutes long." — Laramie Movie Scope
Posted Dec 8, 2013
B 85% The Way Way Back (2013) " The story has some of the lighthearted fun a boy should have working for a fun-loving boss and enjoying the company of a hot girlfriend, but he should be having a lot more fun than this." — Laramie Movie Scope

Posted Dec 8, 2013
C+ 84% Much Ado About Nothing (2013) " This new adaptation of the Shakespearean play is very odd looking, like a modern film done on the cheap, in an ancient language, viewed on a 60-year-old television set." — Laramie Movie Scope
Posted Dec 8, 2013
B+ 92% Gimme The Loot (2013) " Watching this film reminded me a bit of 'Friends,' the funny TV show where nothing ever happens. Here, there is a lot of activity, but nothing much is accomplished, except for the creation of a funny, entertaining movie." — Laramie Movie Scope
Posted Dec 8, 2013
B 93% Frances Ha (2013) " Baumbach likes to walk on the dark side in his films, but there is also a playful side to him. This film does have a dark edge to it, but a lighter mood dominates here, and that is a good thing." — Laramie Movie Scope
