Sunny Deol stars as Arun Khanna, an Indian super-spy and master of disguise, weaponry, poetry, atomic science and women's hearts, among other accomplishments. Told in flashback after ceremonies in Canada honoring him for valor, the story relates his efforts to thwart an evil conspiracy, hatched with the aid of a Pakistani general, to allow terrorists to steal a nuclear bomb for use against India in the dispute over Kashmir. As part of the plan, Khanna must collaborate with two women, one a very beautiful shepherdess (Preity Zinta) and the other an affluent Indian-Canadian doctor (Priyanka Chopra). THE HERO: LOVE STORY OF A SPY is Hindi cinema's biggest budgeted film to date and was shot in the exotic locales of India, Canada and Switzerland. It is directed by Anil Sharma, whose previous film, GADAR, was one of the highest grossing films in Indian history. -- © Pathfinder Pictures [More]

It may be corny, unintentionally amusing at times, but it is also a lot of fun.

Deol is a brawny action icon with a soulful countenance, and there is nothing quite like this stuff when all the elements click smoothly into place.

All it's no more preposterous or jingoistic than American big-budget action thrillers, except for the musical numbers, which are a given.

This colorful Indian spy adventure constitutes the cinematic equivalent of the delightful and inconsequential escapism of a 700-page summer beach novel.

There's too much of everything, including subplots and characters.
