I think this is the most successful film adaptation of the "Philip K Dick style", which is ironic, because it's based on a book written by Ursula K LeGuin, as a tribute to PKD.

The fx aren't great but the story rocks. Best aliens ever. This movie deserves a real remake & not that piece of crap James Caan version that totally misses the point.
