A few questions left unanswered though. --- (Acting: 3.75/5) John Goodman was masterful with his mannerisms. The other 2 were just ok. --- (Character Quality: 3.75/5) The characters were decently written. Howard was unsettling, Emmett was boring and Michelle at least wasnt making silly decisions. --- (Entertainment Value: 4.5/5) This movie kept me hooked the whole time. Not really a mind bender but definite psychological tension. Really fun watch. --- (Expectations vs. Reality: 4.25/5) I have wanted to watch this for a while now and I was not dissapointed. Here’s how it measures up: Story: Solid concept, presented nicely. 1/2 Plot: Full of twists and surprises that keep you guessing. 1.5/2 Visual Effects: Good enough to support the tension and sci-fi elements. 1/2 Acting: Very strong performances, especially in the bunker scenes. 1.5/2 Enjoyment: Honestly, this is where the film shines. See more Edward F @RT21493057 May 25 Saw it when it came out, liked it, was surprised that so few I knew also saw it, and if they did, some didn't care for it. I think the found footage first Cloverfield threw off a lot of people. This is completely different. I just watched it with a friend and he loved it. He loved the plot twists, the slow then sometimes abrupt reveals. He didn't love the direction the ending took, but it was still fun, and everything up till that was really good. Goodman should have gotten better accolades, he was fantastic. He did get lots of horror film festival or local festival credits, but deserved something bigger. The second viewing was with my sister, who wanted to take me to a fancy dine-in theater to see a movie as a birthday gift. Anyway, I still find it fascinating that the movie's marketing was so "hush hush" about the plot details that barely anyone noticed the obvious hint that this was a sequel to the other movie, which also had a great marketing campaign that surprised a lot of viewers. Ah, how I miss the old days when you could see a movie and not have the entire plot spoiled for you by the marketing promos.
