Director P.J. Hogan (Muriel's Wedding, My Best Friend's Wedding) helms this live-action retelling of J.M. Barrie's classic children's play Peter Pan. Starring Jeremy Sumpter (Frailty) in the title role, the film follows the adventures of the Darling children, Wendy (Rachel Hurd-Wood), John (Harry Newell), and Michael (Freddie Popplewell), as they are visited by the boy who never grows up and whisked away to Neverland, where they encounter The Lost Boys, Tinker Bell (Ludivine Sagnier), and the

These ingredients are digitally present and correct, but Hogan fails to inject much excitement into the many boisterous action sequences.
Top CriticA dazzling retelling of the J.M. Barrie tale.
With only a few exceptions, the performances (and the script) range between dull and mediocre.
In this incarnation, Peter is imbued with a greater degree of psychological darkness than before.
Familiarity doesn't exactly breed contempt, yet despite the novelty of a real boy as Peter, the movie does engender a listless been-there / eaten-that reaction.
A tribute to the power of good storytelling.
On the whole it's a pleasant thing, if hardly the definitive treatment of the source material.
It won't give Harry Potter a run for his money, but it beats the hell out of a Cannon & Ball panto in Skegness.
Live-action version keeps its thrill and charm.
Great performances, rollicking action and excitement, and a beautiful story kids will surely love...
Siendo notorio el gusto de Hogan por las letras clásicas de Peter Pan y Wendy, el director sabe educir el alma del libro para llevarla al celuloide.
PJ Hogan's lazy, logy Peter Pan states that not growing up is a tragedy, but presents neither evidence nor arguments.
[I]t's an unfortunate time for a new version of Peter Pan to hit theaters, but those who can push all those King of Pop connections aside will be rewarded.
Even if you don't believe in fairies, this movie will make a believer of you....timeless story gets a grand treatment, though some parents may balk at Hogan's darker tones.
It's not colourful, it's not fun, it's just a gaudy mess of bad aesthetic choices and cruddy CGI.
First off, the movie looks fantastic. The sets are amazing and the effects are wonderful.
Don't get caught somewhere in the middle, wandering around Neverland without a fairy guide.
Gorgeously mounted and imagined, this new incarnation of Peter Pan has one gigantic flaw: Jeremy Sumpter, who plays Pan, cannot act at all.
As smart and definitive a version as we're likely to see for a while, which is fine, if only because it casts an actual child actor instead of a creepy female man-child.
I loved every minute.
Hogan's adapation is likely faithful to a fault: it goes through the motions of the story without seeming to have any reason for telling it.
This is the vision of Peter Pan that I would want in my head when I read the story.
...deliciously dark...
An earnest and enjoyable entertainment that remains loyal to its source if not to those hoping for state-of-the-art special effects.
Peter Pan is so loaded with visual wonder that even when aspects of it fall short, it's gorgeous to behold.

J.M. Barrie's legendary story of Peter Pan is one of the greatest and most beautiful tales ever told. It is a timeless classic that will live on and on, to the generation to another. This is what happens when filmmakers try to turn it into a something more closer to an circus fun. Certainly Barrie's story has much more heart than Hogan can capture to his adaptation. There is nothing wrong with characters that are supposed to be caricatures. The real problem is that none of these actors hold real charisma or talent to make it worthwile. Especilly Jeremy Sumpter is a wrong choice to play Peter Pan. He does not have boyish charisma that Pan should have. He is something closer to an young pop-idol than a real actor capturing the childlike innocense of the boy who never grows old.
Peter Pan does have power of injecting some warmth and heart to it's final frames, but credit from that goes to Barrie's story that is emotionally brilliant piece of literature. If you wanna see better film adaptation of Peter Pan then go and see Spielberg's Hook. That film might not be without it's flaws also but at least it has a real sense of good old adventure and awe in it.
