Tales of the Rat Fink is a documentary that I was sure I would enjoy-it features the music of one of my favorite Canadian Bands, The Sadies, and the life story of Ed "big daddy" Roth-the genuis behind everything cool in the 60's from T-shirts with decals on them to pimped out hot rods that are at the far reaches of the
imagination...unfotunately, the film is pretty crap-ola.It is ambitious though-there are some great visuals, and in a campy retro way, the filmmakers have honed in on their audience of hard core hot rodders with the details. I found that the film was short on info, and much to heavy with the looks-which really goes against everything that Roth was about-he created the whole, not just the wrapper...On the up side, the story needs to be told, as it carries a plethora of american cultural weight, so even if this film comes up way short, it is better than nothing.Overall though, the soundtrack is the best part of this adventure...this is a pinto film in a muscle car film festival.
